Here's a quick and dirty guide to creating a project database with C-Bus Toolkit.
- Run C-Bus Toolkit
- Click the 'Add Project' button
- Enter a name (eg. PROJ001) and hit OK
- You'll be asked if you want to add a new Network. Say Yes.
- Enter the Network Name (eg. NET001), select a Network Type (eg. Serial) and pick a COM port (eg. COM1).
- Note: If you are connecting to a live network, you'll need to select the correct values here. For now, just choose any values to work with a database only.
- Having entered your Network details, Hit OK to continue.
- Click 'Show Project Manager' to see your new project and network.
Your project database has been created. Now let's add a unit :
- Expand the Network node, and click on the 'Units' node
- On the right side, you'll see "Units in Database", and an "Add Unit" button.
- Click "Add Units". You'll see a filter dialog that lets you search the units in the catalog.
- Type in a Unit Code (eg. KEYM4) or a Catalog Number. Note that the list of matching units changes as you type.
- Choose a unit in the list, and hit Ok.
- You'll be prompted with a dialog to enter the Serial Number, Name and Address for this unit. For now, just accept the default values, and hit OK.
- The unit will be added to the listview.
Your new unit has factory default programming, so you still need to program it with Groups and other features :
- Click on the unit, and use the "Edit Unit" button to configure it.
- Note that you can add or edit a Group by using the green icons above or next to the Group combo boxes.
- Use the "Advanced" button where available to expose some of the more advanced functionality of each unit.
- When you're done, hit OK to commit the changes and return to the main window to add more units.
- Try adding various types of units and exploring the functionality that's available in each.
- Have fun!
