    Guys

Here in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand the lines company uses a 300Hz Ripple to control hotwater as well as streetlighting etc.

I have 2 x L5504D2U dimmers, that when the lines company is injecting there ripple signals the lights connected to the dimmer flicker (if dimmed).

I am 100% certain this is caused by the ripple injection, as I have been recording when this happens, and the lines company have been able to align this to when there ripple plant is running/.

There doesnt appear to be much on the forums in regards to C-Bus2 gear - most posts are in regards to older gear.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers
    David

Cbus 2? Its a marketing name introduced back in about 2000/2001 and since slowly disappearing.

In general terms, cbus products are as tolerant of ripple injection as can be. All cbus dimmers (and all stand-alone dimmers for that matter) are designed for and tested using the common ripple injection frequencies (which are 400 Hz and 1 kHz). Your utility is using an unusual frequency and so the tolerance may be less.

Most of the ripple injection uses a motor-generator set. You could ask them to run it a bit faster :)

    Thanks for the reply.

Interesting, that there is not a single lines company in New Zealand using either 400Hz or 1000Hz.

Most of the country is below 350Hz...

:) Oh joy. You learn something new every day.

Ripple injection frequencies vary all around the world, they are poorly documented and some utilities even deny having them (often after they have been installed for 40 years and forgotten, the corporate memory living on in one or two individuals).

Hi Glazza. I am based in Auckland and havn't heard or seen of what you describe with the uni dimmer. Have you checked the line voltages and channel loading? I have had a couple of sites that were rural and suspected issues with 'brown power'...the power supply company creating noise on the line and the dimmers in some situations create a small flickering effect. In saying this I havn't 100% confirmed this theory either but I used to work for a lines company and understand these RI processes.
