i have a question regarding the 5031PEWP weatherproof light level sensor. have checked both the manual and forum but no go. also tried "trial by error", again no success.

can the indicator be permanently turned off using software? if not, as a last resort, perhaps removing the LED?

i don't want the indicator on for 2 reasons: 1) it attracts attention at night - people get curious about what it is (domestic installation) and if people know what it is or are too curious then they might vandalize or take it, and 2) my wife doesn't want a little red light outside the house coz it's reminds her of "other" houses with little red lights where strange men come to visit at all hours!

the outcome of this will determine exactly where it will be installed: visible to the street or hidden around the back. if it can't be disabled then perhaps a product improvement idea for clipsal???

    Thanks in advance.
    Robert.

Whilst there is no magic function that will disable the LED outright, you may be able to configure it so that it never turns on. It will depend on which features of the unit you are using.

If you are only using the unit so that a touchscreen can discover the ambient light level, you can assign the indicator to the On/Off function and then configure the unit so that it never turns this group on.

If you can explain how you're planning to use the sensor we may be able to come up with something.

    thanks newman.

currently i have neo wall switches, dimmers/relays, and the light sensor.

the plan is to get the sensor to toggle the light on/off control group called "light level flag" and then use min logic in the dimmer channel to turn on the light. thus a keypress will turn on the light but ONLY at night.

if there's another (better) way i'm open to suggestions.

i think this all works fine, just need that damn LED extinguished. currently it comes on at night when the "light level flag" group is triggered. i also tried setting the indicator radio button to the light level control group (unused) but this turned on the led permanently.

With that set-up, I can't think of a way of disabling the LED through configuration changes only.

If you really need the LED to be turned off always, you might have to open up the unit and cover it with some tape, a blob of paint or remove it entirely. Doing so will void your warranty on that unit, but that might be a risk worth taking for the WAF.
