Normally I would have used a 5034NIRL but these have been hard to come by in my neck of the woods.

I obtained the 5032NMMIRL to complete a project, I do not need the switch, just the 4 IR locations. When I programmed it up today, I found that the IR positions would only work if the same group name was given to the switch.
    e.g.
If I selected Bedroom_Lights in "Key Group 5" for the IR to control, I had to have Bedroon_Lights selected for "Key Group 1". The same for the other locations. Leaving "Key Group 1" unused stopped "Key Group 5" from operating.

While I achieved my initial aim, I did not spend time playing and it has left me wondering if there is meant to be a one to one connection.
If I had four switches to control lighting, is the IR tied to control the group selected by the switches or can I control other groups with the IR (e.g. Audio)

Buttons on the IR remote are mapped 1:1 with the keys, regardless if the slaves are physically present.

I suspect you might have misunderstood how the IR keys on the 5031NMMIRL work and are thinking that keys 1-4 are physical keys only and keys 5-8 are IR keys only.

The Infrared remote control works on all 8 keys, yet physically you can have only up to 3 slaves connected, giving 4 physical keys in total. So, button 1 on the infrared remote is mapped to key 1 on the 5031NMMIRL. Likewise for buttons 2-4 on the remote map to keys 2-4. Keys 5-8 on the 5031NMMIRL can be controlled by keys 5-8 on the IR remote control only.

To prove whether this is actually what's going on, reset it back to factory defaults, program up the 4 groups you want to control onto keys 1-4 on the unit and leave keys 5-8 blank. Press keys 1-4 on the remote and they should work.

Which remote control do you have?
