My PAC worked out of the box,

that does not mean, that the USB bridge was installed, I had to mannualy go in via Hardware manager, and select the correct config file to get my PAC communicating via USB.

The driver config file that worked for me, (OS Win XP Pro), was located in
    C:\Clipsal\PICED\USB to COM Bridge Driver\slabvxd.inf

Usually XP detects a USB device connected to your system, but not this puppy.

Anyway, thats my two bob ...

    Hi Guys,

I've followed the threads regarding the PAC installation, but when I hook up my PAC unit, and install the drivers, it still shows me that a USB to UART Bridge Controller is installed.

The installation is successfull, (as shown in my Device Manager on Win XP) but I am unable to connect to C-bus via the PAC.
I have downloaded the latest drivers from the CIS website and my PAC shows a manufacturing date of 25 Aug 2005. I tried the installation a couple of times after uninstalling and re-installing the unit, but I still get USB>UART and no connectivity.

    Advise please?

    Thanks

Find out what com port the unit is installed at. Make sure it is connected then look ! I have used PAC units for about 1.5 years and they have installed on com ports between 4 - 9. Make sure your software PICED / Toolkit is pointed towards the correct com number. In some instances PICED looses the com port and you have to re-point it in 'Program Options'. :)

Actually, Windows re-assigns the com port to some other number chosen using some unknown magical method. This only happens when you disconnect and then reconnect, but it can be very disconcerting.

Can you connect to the PAC with the PICED software ?
What exactly do you mean by this ?

    Hi Gents,

    Thanks for the info.
I uninstalled & re-installed my PAC again. It reassigned itself to COM3.

I opened PICED and first had to do a firmware upgrade before I could then download my test program.

All this worked first time and when I then opened Toolkit, I could connect to C-Bus 100%.:D

My believe is that it was either the reinstallation or firmware upgrade that did the trick, as it refused to let me connect to C-Bus first time round, before I did these steps.

    Thanks

mmmm.. interesting how this can come back and bite you!

I've gone to try and re-look at the logic in my PAC.

I was kinda hoping the PAC would be able to be networked with all the WISER introduction and everything:cool:, because guess what... I don't have the old drivers anymore! (the PC they were on has bit the dust...)

So I've put PICED back on to a new laptop (thinking that all the drivers would just load right on from in there),... but the dreaded yellow COM port conflict is happening...

So other than call in my installer..now what do I do???

This raises an interesting issue for product development...just what is going to happen to all the old (I say old but it's only 4 years old!) USB controlled gear as XP is phased out.....surely an upgraded IP addressable PAC is needed;)

All drivers are now installed by C-Bus ToolKit.

That would be a very different product. It would probably not be able to be powered from C-Bus.

How are they installed by C-bus toolkit??

I have the latest version of all your software loaded onto an XP PC.

I think it is a com port conflict..will look into it...
