I'm looking for some advice on how to arrange my project in terms of cbus groups, locations, applications, etc.

Is there a standard rule of thumb to be used for this or everyone does it differently. I currently have a small project setup with a couple of 4 and 8 channel dimmers with which I'm learning. But I can see how this can get very messy if not set up in some kind of basic outline.

    TIA

Applications: Stick to the recommended range of application addresses for standard lighting. (Move away from this only when getting into things more exotic).

Groups: Your groups are the method of binding inputs to outputs. Things with the same group number, in the same application, will talk to each other. Some installers will do things like apply a numbering scheme to their underlying group numbers (eg 1..X for some location - like "west wing", and perhaps 50..y for some other, like "east wing", and 70..z for "palatial penthouse", you get the idea.) Some don't do this, its up to you.

Physical location: put the equipment wherever suits your wiring. If you have a large site with lots of equipment you will need to pay more attention to the location of equipment, and particularly power supplies, in order to avoid the perils of voltage drop. However for small sites (ie less than about 30 to 50 units, and/or less then about 300 metres of cable) this is less of a bit deal. Your mileage here will vary.

You will need to check things like power consumption and power supply capacity. Make sure you have excess power supply capacity BUT NEVER MORE THAN 2 AMPS!

    A few suggestions

Just a suggestion for a group tagging structure, something like :
    L1/DB1/R2/C4/Hall/Lts Grp1
Meaning the circuit is on Level 1, switched from distribution board DB1, via Relay 2, on channel 4, it is in the hall and it is lights group 1. I have found this type of approach great for multi story buildings where there are many distribution boards. I have also found using a tag format that appears similar to windows file structures and web addresses provides a degree of familiarity. I guess the key though is consitency and aim for something that is logical, something that makes sense at a glance. I have found that on larger more complex projects a well thought out group tagging / naming structure pays off in dividends in terms of working with and maintaining the site. I also recomend making use of Microsoft Excel to put the tag names together then cutting and pasting into toolkit. Good luck
    L2/DB2/Rel-01/Ch02/Lts

But when try on my ipad ( conect by wiser) , when i call lcpad, lcppo and another channel turn on also.

    Any info regarding cannel tagging?

    Hey Poldim,

Everyone seems to have their own 'style' when it comes to group address tags and setups.. I am a fan of keeping things simple but smart..

Eg, 'R1-1 Bedroom Lts' group address tag = relay 1 channel 1 description..

    Cheers..

I assume you mean the numbers cbus uses in its messages..

I believe in simplest form it is 12 digits, combining 4 numbers, but one of the gurus will confirm

    Structure: Network, Application, Group, Level..

Each of these has a range of 000-254..

    Cheers..

    Hi Roosta

    Hi roosta,

It happened to me when I tagging the channel on relay with LCPPO1101 at my first panel story, sometime will connect to other panel tagging with LCPPO21101 .

So we have to do the re tagging with different name as unique name or number. i.e give some alphabet as additional at the end of the code.

    Thanks and regards,
