    Hi again,

Sorry about all the questions relating to alarm systems. My alarm installer and the chap who is going to do the programming of the alarm so that it can communicate with Cbus has asked me to provide them with a list of events which I think should occur when the alarm is armed/disarmed/triggered etc.

What sort of things would you recommend happen? say for instance when the alarm is armed / disarmed / triggered.

For example - when the alarm is armed , it may instruct the cbus network to turn on the entry lights, external front entry lights for a few minutes then turn them off again. I guess I create an "alarmisarmed" scene and then trigger the scene?

    - when the alarm is disarmed (if it is dark) that the alarm instruct the cbus network to turn some lights on in the home - would I setup a scene in the CTC and then get the alarm to trigger this scene?

    - when the alarm has been triggered - to also turn some lights on in the home as well as external security lighting to be turned on - again a scene I guess..

Just after some thoughts about what people think would be usefull for the alarm to do as far as the cbus network is concerned - should i just keep it simple stupid (KISS) and just arm and disarm via the CTC, or is it a worthwhile exercise to get the alarm to trigger some events as above.

    Your thoughts appreciated.

    Hiya,

You can certainly have complex behaviour arising from the alarm events, but its best to configure it on the c-bus side where you can reprogram it easily. My advice would be to just give them a block of group numbers they can use and have them issue one group on/off or trigger control event for each possible alarm event, then you can program the C-Bus side (I note you have a CTC) to fire off any number of scenes in response to each action.

Thanks again Daniel for the reply,

So, the alarm guys program the alarm side of things to say for example toggle group address 10 on/off when the alarm is armed (GA on) and when the alarm is disarmed (GA off).

And similarly for other events on the alarm panel.

I then program the CTC to trigger group address 10 (GA on) and that should tell the alarm to arm.

    Is my thinking correct?

Now all I need to do is find a 5500PC, I rang an electrical supplier "Lawrence and Hanson" on the Gold Coast and was told that there are no 5500PC units anywhere in Australia and that I would have to wait 4 weeks for one. I guess I wont be doing much work with it this week then!! I have not contacted CIS in Brisbane to see if this is infact the case, dissapointing if it is.

    Dak,

What sort of time frame have you been given for PCI to turn up?

    Hi Mr Mark,

CIS informed the retailer that there were none in the country, and that it would be 4 weeks minimum. I was there when the phone call was made to CIS.

However, I was lucky as another retailer (Cetnaj) - Gold Coast, was able to source one unit from there Bowen Hills Store in Brisbane, so I should receive it this morning.

Hard to believe that something as crucial as an interface is not readily available.

I have been waiting on a PCI and a 12 Channel Relay (no ps) and 25 DLT for 3 weeks now. distributor can not get an ETA from clipsal either.
Clipsal Rep said that 40% of orders at the moment can not be fulfilled because of stock issues.

Clipsal really need to sort this stock issue sorted out. Otherwise you will become a victim of your own success as c-bus takes off.

Do you think that Clipsal actually make every component in a 12ch relay?

Has ever occurred to anyone that if a relay manufacturer can not or has not produced enough relays; Clipsal can't buy anymore...

It happens in every industry; especially I.T. Memory manufacturers are a classic example.

We are all waiting for relays, maybe if a phone to Clipsal was made you would be able to make more informed comments on the forum.

Blaming a 3rd party is not realy a good excuse... CIS shoud be managing their 3rd partys better so this does not happen or ordering enough buffer stock. I know this all costs money. Everybody is changing to the "just in time" method to save money.

Exactly the point !!! CIS are not getting this info to the distributors or the Clipsal reps.

I am sure CIS will be realy happy if I ring them directly every time I have a stock issue.
