Is there still any significance to Application 1?

I converted all my previous Application 1 instances to the Security Status method and it works well. I do however see that groups 1-64 are still created dynamically for Application 1 even if I delete them all in Toolkit.

My next question is, if I do read Application 1 status from C-Gate, I get return values which is not what is currently set on the Security side. EG, Zone 1 is unsealed and when I query Application 1, Group 1, then it returns '0'. Also, even setting Application 1, Group 1 to On seems to have no noticible influence on anything.

Can I assume that Application 1 is NOT used for Security anymore and that I should actually ignore any commands sent, or values received for this Application. I remember it's called 'For General Use' so there might be other vendors still using it. How also can I disable the Application 1 Groups 1-64 from being dynamically created?

Don't assume. Application 1 is a free for all. DO NOT USE IT FOR LIGHTING CONTROL. It *is* used by security systems.

Ok, sure. What about setting group address 1 on Application 1 via CGate? Would that do anything? From my Comfort system I don't see anything, it looks like it's a one-way indicator of zone status only.

To confirm, Application 1 messages will appear on the bus when zones Open/Close. Setting Zone 1 to 0xFF, via CGate, has no impact other than to confuse everyone. As soon as Zone 1 is then opened and closed again the value will revert back to 0. Is that correct?

If the above statements are correct then I should not enable setting of the Application 1 groups, the Security system will set the groups as Zones open/close and I should just read the bus messages as they come in. My goal is to only read the Zone status and not make it possible for someone to set it by accident.

As the above posts have indicated, its best to leave the reserved apps well alone. There are plenty of other "free" ones further up the list if you want to use a phantom set of group addresses for logic or flag states etc.

I've never had an issue with AA as a spare application, I don't believe its in use by anything.

I agree with you. The reason I mentioned Application 1 is when I read the tag file I get a list of all the current applications and groups. Application 1 is just one of them due to me having a Comfort system attached to Cbus.

I was just testing to see what happens when setting application 1 groups and from what I can see it has no bearing on the Comfort system at all. So for that particular implementation it it one-way only.

If however some other system allows setting of Application 1 groups then obviously my logic is flawed. In the meantime, for my own application, I will try to disable the setting of groups in Application 1 just to be on the safe side, I will use it as a Read-Only indicator.

Just remember that the official "free use" applications are 0x01 (1) to 0x0F (15). All other application numbers are either allocated or reserved. If you stick to the free use applications 1 - 15 then you don't have to worry about something breaking in the future by any actions on Clipsal's part.
