Just need some urgent help on programming the Mark 2 C-touch, which was supposed to be an easy step:

When trying to transfer the project to the MkII C-Touch, it always says my unit is an old "c-touch", not a MkII c-touch, (i.e. Error# 14603) and so it refused to go further.

I tried reseting the C-Touch and reloading firmware (MkII; 3.43), updating toolkits and PICED to latest versions, forcing new USB driver installations and it still doesn't work. I even tried it with three different computers, none worked.

    Details:
Computer 1, Vista Basic, PICED 4.7.2.
--> Driver found when connected, but keep displaying Err14603 when downloading.

    Computer 2, XP Pro SP3, PICED 4.7.2
--> Driver found when connected, but keep displaying Err14603 when downloading.

Computer 3, old laptop with XP Home SP2, PICED 4.4.1
--> Driver not found when connected.
I used this computer 3 for all my on-site programming, and it worked with another MkII C-Touch approx 6 months ago, and had no driver issues!! Did the C-touch changed its hardware?
With this computer, I cannot upgrade PICED because it keep saying I have no updated toolkit (1.10.X) althought it is installed with 1.10.6 already. Even the new USB driver installation did not work.

    Hope someone can help.

PICED will sometimes get confused if it gets no reply from a C-Touch Mark 2 and think that it is actually connected to a C-Touch Mark 1.

To see if this is the problem:
    1. Switch on your PICED log
    2. Enable the Show C-Touch/PAC Messages log option
    3. Try a project transfer
    4. Post the contents of the log (just the part of the log related to the project transfer - it should hopefully be obvious)
    5. We will see what is going on and let you know what to do next

The error on computer 3 means the USB drivers didn't install correctly when installing Toolkit. I believe PICED looks for this driver when determining if the correct version of Toolkit is present.

Remember to check your 'Device Manager' in control panel and check the port that the ctouch is sitting on before you proceed:)

    For my case:
The message appears that B&W C-touch MKII is connected when it tries to send project to PAC by using PICED4.7.2/4.7.1.
This trouble was generated also VISTA and XP.

Can you follow the above steps so that we can see the logged messages?

Here it is. Yes, there is no RX from PICED while downloading.

I have now tried on different C-Touch MarkII. One is manufactured in Mar 2008 and one in Jan 2009. Same result.

I still don't understand why I was so lucky to be able to finish my previous project six months ago....

Hope someone can point out my problem.

This is very odd. It looks like the unit is replying with the correct information, but PICED is not recognising it. I will look into it tomorrow.

I've got same complaints from 3-4 integrators lately. They have PACA or MKII projects, but PICED says it's C-Touch and not downloading.

It only happens on recent PICED versions, when installed previous PICEDs - everything OK

I thought this problem looked familiar. It is already in our system as #17698.

It is probably caused by the use of non-English language in the operating system.

If this is the case, you should be able to work around it for now by:
    1. Open the Control Panel
    2. Open Regional and Language Options
    3. Select the Advanced tab
    4. Set the Language for non-Unicode programs to English
    5. Click on OK
    6. Reboot your PC
    7. Try transferring again

Let me know if this works.

;)Great! perfect solution for the problem.

But many other software, including the installers, wouldn't work because all the path becomes unknown code for them, so I need to switch the setting every time I download the programs.

I should have reminded myself that I should install English OS for all our new computers to avoid potential problems.

Anyway, it is a relief to fix the problem.

One more question: why can't the new USB driver be installed on old laptops? Would it be the USB1.0 port problem? I guess the driver installation doesn't check CPU type..etc, right?

You're going to need to be more specific.

    :D:D:D

All installation problems are solved with USB Driver Installer Version 5.4.24 and toolkit 1.10.8, even though the first couple installation of the USB driver still hanged up, it worked on my third try.

    Thx for the quick responds.

This obviously is not the long-term solution to the problem. We are trying to verify that we understand the cause of your particular problem so that we can implement a fix. It is also a temporary measure to get you going ASAP.

    Hello Darren,

    I did a wrong report.
A wrong message was not C-Touch MkII but C-Touch.
The error message was confirmed by the following combinations.
    Windows7 Japanese, ToolKit 1.10.8, PICED 4.7.2
WindowsXP Japanese, Toolkit 1.10.8, PICED 4.7.2
WindowsXP English, ToolKit 1.10.7, and the PICED 4.7.1
USB driver is C-Bus Pascal Automation Controller (5500PACA) Version 5.4.24.0.

It operated in the following combinations.
WindowsXP English, Toolkit 1.10.8, and the PICED 4.7.0
USB driver is C-Bus Pascal Automation Controller (5500PACA) Version 5.4.24.0.

In PICED 4.7.2, the problem occurred in WindowsXP English.
It is not understood whether this problem is a problem of non-English language Windows.
Bottom picture is a case of non-trouble connection.
