We already know there are slight performance issues with the PACA vs the Colour Touch Screen logic engine due to the hardware platform used in those products. How does the performance of the new B/W touch screen logic engine compare with the PACA and CTS. Will the B/W logic engine provide better performance than the PACA? will it be comparable with the CTS?

Stace you are always full of surprises!!!:)
Is there a thought for delivering a new B/W touch screen???

The CTS has about 20 times the processing power of the PACA, it does cost about 6 times as much as a PAC. Even though the CTS is weighed down by the Windows embedded OS, I don't think you can refer to the PACA as having performance issues if one understands physically what the two devices represent. You can't really compare the two.

I think you will find the new B&W TS with logic will have its resources split between logic, graphics/display so it might have limitations compared to the PACA ???

PAC / C-Touch Logic Comparison

Hi,

A fair bit of work has gone into the Logic Engine over the last year or so. These firmware changes mean that PAC (v3.0.0) can now run about 50% more logic on average than it used to (v2.x.x).

The B&W C-Touch#2 has lots more grunt than the PAC. It can run about 10 times as much logic on average as PAC 2.x.x.

Comparison to the Colour C-Touch is not really possible as logic does not have the same constraints. CTC should be a few times faster than the B&W C-Touch#2.

We have also added the ability to handle a large amount of logic on a single execution, as long as the average logic execution time remains within the above limits. On a single execution PAC 3.0.0 can run about 5 times more logic than PAC 2.x.x and the C-Touch#2 can run about 20 times more than PAC 2.x.x. This should make logic programming easier, as one off events should now run OK where they may have caused PAC 2.x.x to timeout (think large scenes, big chunks of conditional logic etc.).

These figures are rough and should be used as a guide only, don't hold me to them! Performance will vary depending on heaps of other factors like; how many scenes are currently active, C-Bus traffic levels, whether schedules are executing at the same time etc.

Cheers,
Mark.

Nice job!

Nice job!
It can run about 10 times as much logic on average as PAC 2.x.x

It has 50% larger screen than the old monochrome screen
It costs about the same as
the old monochrome screen

Any estimation when it will be realised in Europe?

The dimensions of the glass fascia in that photo are 195mm x 135mm. The screen is also bigger than the old one at 4.7", and has much better contrast.

As for the price, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised...

I want one!
Biggest problem will be chiseling out a new hole in the brick wall for a bigger wall box... oh well.
I presume it has an external power supply like the C-Touch Colour?

Ah yes... a bigger hole (but that's better than patching if the screen was smaller!!)

The screen doesn't need an external power supply... it's powered from C-Bus.... It consumes 65mA.

Published pricing for the Australian market sees trade for the Non-logic (standard fascia) at $900.00 and logic version (again, standard fascia) at $1,100.00
