There is this project where we have c-bus installed for a local shopping mall
I took quite some time to get this project commissioned. Now the problem is the cable run is almost 2 KM. For this reason i have also installed 3 power supply units as well and i still don't get the constant bus connectivity.
On the central location when isolating the second side of the mall gets scanned and appears as the project on the toolkit and vice versa. But when when you scan the entire mall i get the failed to scan unit error message. I have tried everything that i could do and i am not able to scan the entire mall as one network.
    What should I do???

Maximum total cable length per network is 1000 mtrs. If you go beyond this, you need a network bridge. You will need to ensure you have enough power supplies for each network as the bridge electrically isolates the two networks.

This is a fundamental aspect of C-Bus. Have you completed a C-Bus training course?

    Cheers

    Training Course

    :)
Yes I have completed the basic as well as the advanced training courses.
Now regarding the question i asked earlier:
    1) The cable length has been split into 2 separate networks of 900mts each.
    2) Sufficient amount of power supply has been added at required locations and checking with the C-Bus calculator as well.
    3) The bridge has been programmed to connect both the network as a series.
    4) The far side of the NB detects all the modules for programming.
    5) The near side has been programmed for the 2nd network.

Now The main Question is that Why am I not able to scan both the networks together from a central location?

I assume you mean - if you have 1.8 km of cable and you want to scan from the middle, it looks like you have 2 lots of 900m so it should be OK ?

    Is that what you mean?

Whatever... the answer is - the electrical specification is the limit of performance is 1000m of cable in total, no matter what the topology.

You exceeded it. It does not matter where you connect and try to scan, more than 1000m is more than 1000m.

This is how I have read it
    Code:
                           (900m) (900m)
    (Network 2)------------------NB------------------ (Network 1)
                                           |
                                       PCI/CNI
                                           |
                                          PC
    NB = Network Bridge

In this configuration, each network is less than the 1000m so it should work (which you say it does).

In toolkit, there are two networks specified and they will have to be scanned separately. You don't get both networks showing up together. This may be the source of your confusion.

In the above you will scan the right network and only see device on it. If you then move the PCI to the left network and scan you will only see the devices on the left network.

If you create the two networks in toolkit and setup the bridge correctly, (as per the above diagram), you will can scan the local network and then scan the remote network separately. both networks will be open and you can go between them without having to re-scan. The bridge is not transparent in that respects. It can be transparent though to C-bus commands (passing all commands on all applications)

    Hope this helps

    Mick
