    Hi Ozsparky
What CBus interface and OS you are using?
    Is it a new PC?
Do you have your existing project?
Was it working before you upgraded ToolKit?

    Have a read of this
    http://www.cbusforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11820

In my case scanning the network and then clicking open still causes ToolKit 1.14.2 to crash.
Setting the project details manually then connecting from the project tree network page works for me.

Hi Ozsparky, we did receive your emails and I've had a look. Unfortunately I'm a bit lost because your v1.14.3 of Toolkit keeps sending the old log files generated by v1.13.3. I'm not sure how that's happened :( If you go to your C:\Clipsal\CBusToolkit directory and delete the subdirectory "ExceptionReports" that should fix it. If that fails remove all the files beginning with "rolling-log".

Anyway from the error it seems like the connection to C-Gate has dropped at that point. Can you please check a couple of things for me after you have produced the failure?

    1. Confirm if C-Gate is still running: Click Windows "Start" button, type "connect" and wait a second, you should see an option to "Connect to C-Gate", select this. If you see a black window with something like "201 Service ready: Clipsal C-Gate Version: v2.10.6 (build 9999) #cmd-syntax=1.0" then you can answer: yes, it's running.

    2. Check for a C-Gate exception: In your C:\Clipsal\C-Gate2 directory look for the file "exception.info". If it exists, open it in an editor such as Notepad. It may contain multiple exceptions, each block separated by dashed lines. At the end see if the last exception(s) match the time of the failure (or even just on the same day), if so please paste that block as your answer.

    Thanks!

    Hi Daniel,
    thanks for the reply.

    1. Confirm if C-Gate is still running: When i start the C-Bus Tool kit the C-Gate service is started. I have confirmed this. Then when i connect to my project it scans when its finished it crashed. I have then checked and found the C-Gate service in no longer running

I watched the service window (telnet) whist all the was happening and the error "Connection to Host Lost"
    2. Check for a C-Gate exception: I could not find any Exception files. I have turned on Windows show all file types including system

    I

    Hi Ozsparky
Did you try the method I suggested where you create the project manually then connect from the project tree network tab?
No need to add the units or anything other than connection details.

Hmm, it's rare that C-Gate crashes and even rarer for it to crash without an exception. I'll send you a PM with an e-mail address that you can send your logs to, if you're willing. Until then the only thing I can suggest is to completely uninstall and reinstall everything.

    Thanks Ozsparky.

Sounds like the way to go Daniel. I have uninstalled and re installed C-Gate twice. Still the same

    Cheers

Hi DarylMc, your suggestion is indeed the workaround for a known problem, however I don't think that problem crashes C-Gate which makes me think this might be a different issue. Nevertheless, it can't hurt to try it :)

    Hi Ozsparky
This is just a wild guess but do you have anything else running on the PC which might be trying to connect to the network?

I'm downloading 1.14.3 to try out at the moment.
    Windows 7 64 bit.

    I just installed 1.14.3
I normally use stand alone CGate window but installed as a service this time.
No problems to connect to the network.

    Can you try another interface?
Send me a PM if you want to come around and try one of mine.

I suppose it is not likely to be the interface but I thought trying a TCP connection could help rule out USB driver problems.
One other problem which has come up before is installing Toolkit to a disk location other than the default.
Have you done that this time or on previous occasions?

Just an update, I've been in PMs with OzSparky and looking at the logs. It does seem like cgate.exe (the service/launcher) is behaving oddly. It's shutting down C-Gate soon after it starts up, about 50% of the time. I don't yet know why it's doing this.

Re-installing the software with the "C-Gate as a Service" option unticked (so that it appears as a console window) appears to have addressed the problem. I'm just noting this here in case anyone else stumbles across the thread.

Hi Daniel. i have been running the C-Gate for two days over the weekend with no failures. Looks like running the Service unticked worked. Thanks for the support.

    cheers
