Is there a way to make C-Gate (I'm running: v2.5.8 (build 2108)) respond the same way to commands that woked on earlier versions of C-Gate?

I have a problem with Homespeak not working with the new version.

When HomeSpeak telnets into a 1.5 version and issue the command:

    'show cbus networks'

    a response '300 cbus: networks=1,2,3' is returned.

On the latest C-Gate, the following response is returned: '401 Bad object or device ID.'

On the same subject, where can I find the latest C-Gate documentation?

    Thanks Richo,

A strange place to hide the documentation?? Why not just include it with the product?

If I turn this on, will Toolkit still work as per normal?

No idea, that senerio is unsupported and untested. Chances are it won't.

So best bet is to run a seperate instance for Homespeak? I've done this and it seems to work, but now I need two systems.

What are the chances of getting a 'C-Gate' in a Din-Rail version?

Does that mean it is available as a "Zip" file - cool :D Surely you could fit this into a din module then :D :D :D
    ...
.... Sorry I can't help myself sometimes. One of those days with minimal comic relief. ;)

PS. No dis to you Jannie, your question is valid. I just like to have a dig at my mates in the CIS brains trust every now and then :)

    Well, as an alternative solution,

It would be possible to build a computer that would be capable of running C-Gate, with up to something like a 2Ghz CPU, 256Mb to 2Gb RAM, 2.5" laptop hard drive, 100Mb network, a serial port, and fit the entire thing into a case no bigger than a typical Car Head-unit (the CD player in your dash). Plus things this size usually run off 12 Volts if needed, and because it would only be running basic windows or Linux, with nothing but C-Gate running on it, and no keyboard, mouse, or monitor connected once setup, it shouldnt have any problems, resources-wise, in running something like C-Gate alone, and use other full-sized systems to do the rest of the work.

Would cost something around the $400-600 mark at most, if not less.

Just an idea if you really need or want to have a device in a wiring closet that runs C-Gate alone, for connection across a typical computer LAN.

    Darpa:)

    Good advice, Darpa.

I'm running a VIA mini-ITX system that provides c-gate, automation, NAS and NAT under Linux to my home LAN. C-Gate has been up for over six weeks. Unix CRON runs a PHP/MySQL script every minute that sends commands to c-gate. And when I need toolkit, I just connect to the c-gate repository on the mini-ITX and it's all there.

Next goal is a shiny web based user interface for the MySQL to c-gate commands (available through starserve/IR of course!).

I have been meaning to document all of this, but time simply hasn't allowed - yet.
