Hi, is it possible to located all tag files on a central server. We have mapped a drive z:/clipsal/tags which is where we would like to store all of our projects.
Been looking a the c-gate config file and see where there is a section which enables the tage file to be moved elsewhere, but it does'nt work on a windows mapped drive.
Is there something I am missing.

Hi, changing C-Gate's tag directory to a network share is not an officially tested nor supported configuration. However some users have reported success by mapping the share to a local drive letter.

    Fair warning:

    1) We have received some reports of people losing data by attempting this.

    2) There is absolutely no concurrency access protection so if someone else accesses the same file you will be overwriting each other's changes.

As an aside, if you have (or are familiar with) a source control system such as Git you might find that to be a more robust and viable solution - turn C-Gate's tag directory into a local repository, push changes to the server.

I did this about 10 year ago and it worked fine.

I think I used a UNC path ( \\<server>\clipsal\tags )though so that mapping a drive was not required.

Just be mindful that this opens you up to having more than one person trying to use the files at once and there may be unpredictable results as indicated.

many thanks gents, will have a look on how to manage tag files better.
It's just a nightmare, keeping the files up to date in and out of the office with different engineers keeping some on laptops and not updating one in the office, and visa versa.
