This question relates to lightning/overvoltage protection.

I am trying to figure out the most reasonable protection system for my installation. All mcbs/rcds etc are merlin gerin and I am using merlin busbar.

I would like to know if anyone has any background with the divertors as the merlin divertor I would use is only $300 though has a lower withstand characteristic then the clipsal ($850). Whilst the extra outlay for peace of mind isn't too great, if either unit gets hit it needs replacing anyway after it ruptures so chances are the unit will pass most of the surge on anyway? yes/no/maybe We also have the added protection of u/g supply.

Worst case insurance should cover anyway, but does anyone have any experience with ka's and withstands?

the merlin - 16606 stm surge arrestor 40kA at 20/8us
    the clipsal - 950/2SPD Overvoltage arrestor 50kA 10/350us
