Clock and Timekeeping devices?

    Is there an official list of all the Clipsal 'Clock and Timekeeping' devices/software and their priorities and/or long waiting periods?

    I am interested to know what different devices are classified as P1, P2 or P3.

    EG. PAC, CTouch, Wiser, Homegate etc. with or without NTP sync if applicable.

    Once upon a time such a thing existed. I am not sure if it was ever released externally. The clocks and timekeeping application definition may have something in there.

    As I recall, its something like this:

    Highest priority / best (equally)
    • Wiser (has NTP sync)
    • Homegate with NTP sync

    Equal next:
    • C-Touch
    • PAC

    Lowest:
    Pretty much anything else

    Important: There are some 3rd party products (M1 Gold and others) that also try and do time sync, and these don't always play by the rules (sadly).

    Thanks. I had an idea it's in the order you provided. Just wanted to know who is more preferred over the others if you have a combination of the mentioned list.

    Basically the order goes:

    NTP
    Crystal locked high precision
    Crystal locked low precision

    Devices without crystals (eg resonators, RC based clocking) should not ever be time masters, they can accept updates and send alterations based on a person making an adjustment, but they can not send regular updates.

    In the above crystal high precision means about 30 ppm or better, crystal low precision means about 50-100ppm or thereabouts. Note that 50 ppm can result in an error of around 15 minutes / year, so its way better than 1% but still not all that super duper.

    Interesting comment you made about RC clocked devices. If I understand you correctly, these devices should never make 'regular' updates to Cbus and with this I mean updates in less than 150 minutes hold time.

    If the user of the 3rd party device then does a manual time correction this change will reflect on Cbus but then something like a PAC will, after 70 minutes, take over as a Master again.

    Thats right.

    And NTP is also an issue because NTP is a god-like source of time, so in general terms the only user adjustments that will persist there are a possible change to the daylight savings offset - ie an adjustment of an hour should stick but thats about it.
