I am trying to run C-Bus Toolkit (V1.11.4) and having trouble.

I am using the CNI unit that came with Wiser,.
I have used C-Bus IP Utility to configure the CNI. (Image 1)

I have configured C-Bus Toolkit as shown in Image 2

When I select open network, I get error message in Image 3
A while later I get error message in Image 4

    Thanks in advance!!!

I see your CNI is reporting there is a connection from 192.168.32.231. I'm guessing that is your Wiser. When your Wiser is connected to the CNI, that means that you can't connect to the CNI using toolkit as well because only one service can use a CNI at a time. The way to get access to the CNI is to connect to your Wiser , (I'm assuming at 192.168.32.231) on the same port. The wiser will then behave just like a regular CNI (during which your Wiser UI and services will not have any effect on C-Bus). This is called transparent mode.

    need more help

    Actually:
The Wiser *was* 192.168.32.230 but has been removed from the network.

We are installing a ?lan g! system (192.168.32.231)

We use Toolkit to configure the c-bus devices.
Is there any way to use the CNI that came with the Wiser (not using the router part) and be able to access Toolkit ?

    Currently:
    * The Wiser is not on my LAN
    * The ?lan is powered up and on the LAN and talking to the CNI

(Am I mistaken, or in the past, could I have the Wiser running and run Toolkit at the same time?)

    Again, thanks in advance.

    Hi Lenny,

My first thought is the same as kjayakumar's response above. As he said, a CNI will only accept one incoming connection at a time. So whether it was the Wiser unit, or the Elan controller, or something else all together, if that device is holding the connection open, Toolkit wouldn't be able to connect. If you need to get connected, you may need to tell the Elan controller to close its connection first (not sure if just physically disconnecting the Elan controller would work because I'm not sure how the CNI would handle that - so it may require rebooting the CNI if you did it this way).

    A couple of other thoughts:

Is the physical Wiser unit completely gone? So physically, it is just the CNI on the network (the smaller black box)? Along with this thought, I assume it's there, but you would need to make sure that the CNI is still powered up from its external power supply

I know everything has been up and running for a long time, but is it possible that there is no more network burden on the C-Bus network? The "PCI failed to reset" error so often indicates that you need a burden on the network.

Are you using a physical burden (little red RJ45 dongle), or a software burden enabled in the GUI of one of your units? If software burden, is it possible that some or all of your network devices got re-addressed? A software burden will only work if it is enabled on a unit with a unit address of 001.

    HTH,
    -John T

When toolkit is connected to your Wiser, your Wiser will go into transparent mode. When you load the UI, there's a big dialog that says transparent mode and clicking on widgets, logic, scheduling etc will have no effect on C-Bus because the Wiser is transparently acting as a CNI for Toolkit. This has always been the case. Once you disconnect Toolkit, then the Wiser will automatically reconnect and establish its normal connection.

    Follow up

First thanks to both Wire_Bug and kjayakumar for their replies.

I have been tinkering with the CNI and can report the following.
I also have a few questions.

    My configuration is:
    Local home LAN is 192.168.32.x

I have been using the Wiser as a device on my LAN at address 192.168.32.230
I am installing an ?lan g! system. The IP of the ?lan is 192.168.32.233

If I disconnect the CNI from the Wiser and connect the CNI box directly to my LAN
    it works like a champ.
    IP: 192.168.32.231
    Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gate: 192.168.32.231

As indicated above in this thread, since the CNI can only have one connection,
I need to disable the ?lan g!'s access to the CNI at .231 before running Toolkit
as the CNI can only have one active connection.

Since we are transitioning the home from Wiser to ?lan, we would ideally like
    to run both control systems.

Specifically, if you reconnect the CNI to the Wiser and reconfigure it
    IP: 192.168.2.2
    Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gate: 192.168.2.1

The Wiser work as it always has.
If you run Toolkit, the Wiser goes into "transparency mode".

Question: In this mode it is possible for ?lan to access the CNI
buy going through the Wiser? (it seems the Toolkit can)

    As always, thanks in advance

I'm not familiar with elan, but if it behaves normally, ie: opens a TCP connection to the IP address and port of the "CNI" (ie: the Wiser), then the Wiser will automatically work as a CNI and it will be transparent to the elan.
