How useful do you feel the CTC is? Here in the states it is flat out expensive but I have been thinking of ordering one. I currently use Charmed Quark and applicable driver with an ELO touchscreen but was curious what I am missing by not having the CTC.

    Any input or advice?

    Thanks.

Are you doing a fair comparison? Buying a Colour Touchscreen means you dont need a copy of WIndows XP/Vista (along with its licensing costs), you dont need a PC, you don't need a touch screen, and you don't need a copy of C-Gate running or a dedicated C-Bus PCI.. ?

Additionally, when you add the power of the logic engine into the mix which speaks to C-Bus at a wonderfully "native" level its a compelling(ish) solution.

Just remember that you wont have the interactivity that you currently do now with CQC. The CTC as you say is expensive, and you could quite easily buy a PC for CQC for the same price.

It all depends on what you are trying to integrate.

With Dean now sorting out the issues relating to securing the driver I would expect to see a full blown CQC driver soon.

I agree the Ctouch Colour is overpriced. The new black and white with logic may be all some need. The Ctouch is to slow and struggles showing Ip cameras at a decent refresh rate. Ive ordered a Iport to test how easy and reliable it will be (im hoping it will be ok). I have used the Homegate pc and a touch screen many times before and they work great and if there ever is a problem and you have backed up the project you can generally get it back up quick. With several other manufactures we deal with reducing prices on there high ticket items such as touch screens and clipsal adding another 4.6% in april to cbus it is far too expensive for the average job.

I've never been able to get a client to buy a Clipsal Colour Touch. When they see it in the flesh they just laugh.

It's not really the price (which is outrageous in most buyer's eyes) but the features offered. At the end of the day, a large percentage of people use a Touch Screen for the W*nk Factor. If they didn't, they could just use a PAC.

My last client ended up with a 21" recessed LCD with a remote (normal type) PC in the basement (directly underneath) - he rejected the Clipsal CTC and told me that he had larger screens built into the headrests of his car... :D

    Rohan,

I am not leaving my touch screen and your CBUS driver behind... after reading some of these folks input has confirmed my feelings that they are over-priced for my needs. I already have the pc, touchscreen, Xp license, PASCAL Controller, PCI.. so from that stand point the most compelling reason for the CTC is negated.

I really do need to figure out why my cbus driver keeps timing out and making it unusable in my installation. I am sure it is something in my environment but I can't figure it out yet. I will take this over to CQC forum to get to the bottom of that issue.

    Thanks.

    Mick,

I am VERY hopeful that the Thermostats will be controllable by the CQC driver in the future.

    Thanks.

Re control of thermostats by CQC:

This is likely to be possible in the future, once the product and the underlying protocol are released.

The thermostat is not controlled by the lighting protocols, so anything built off the public release will be limited in function to only turning a HVAC zone on or off. To do more will require some quite big driver updates.

The documentation is expected to be released to C-Bus Enabled / C-Bus Entente members sometime in the next couple of months.
