    Hi all

I have been working with C-Bus for a couple of years, and I have completed the Basic & Int. 1 training. I have booked in for the Int 2 training course next month.

I have been approached by a new customer that has an existing B/W touch screen in his $3mil+ house that he would like to upgrade to a CTC. I have ordered the product and I have been looking at the PICED software. When looking through the availble inbuilt templates for the CTC in PICED it would seem that most of the templates have been designed by a Uni student that had been on some substance abuse.

I believe my new customer would require a more Serene template than those included in the PICED software. Is there a repository on the forum where members share templates like I have seen at Charmed Quark, AMX, Crestron etc.

It seems strange that the available templates in the PICED software are so limited in thier design when the CTC is now listed at $4k+ (RRP) in the 2007 Clipsal Product Guide.

Just a final question do you guys currently using the CTC in the field use the existing PICED templates or do you engage a graphics/web designer to do your own custom templates.

    Thanks Peter

We will have a few more "serene" templates for the next release. I believe that the majority of the templates are quite suitable for use, and judging from the projects that we see in the field, they get used a lot. I agree that some are a bit silly ("colourful" and "grunge" in particular), but variety is good since you never know what people will want.

We have a graphics designer who created the templates for us. He wasn't a Uni student at the time he created those templates, and I can assure you he is not on drugs :)

If you can give some specific examples of the sort of "look" you want, we will endeavour to produce some more suitable templates.

There are loads of options for Touch Screens. I tend to use a different design for each installation rather then use the templates. I use colours that will suit the interior of the house & choose a style depending on the client. I go for basic screens as much as possible. If the client is a techo then you can flash it up a bit & give him some programming & setting options. If the client is a technological retard however, I would give him a pretty screen that turns the lights on and off.
Treat the screen as a web site, it should be as intuitive as possible & give you the most common operations with the least amount of page changes.

    Cheers

    Hi,
the new PICED V4 software should have a new series of templates for the touch screens. The problem with templates is that it really restricts the way your project looks, eg limited space for buttons etc. The advantage of it, is that you can whip up a professional looking project in a short time.

Just for the record, the Intermediate 2 training course only focuses a small amount on the colour touch screen. The INT 2 mainly focuses on the Logic Engine.

Thanks for the info about the Int 2 course, I suppose they think what they covered on the B/W in Int 1 was enough on touch screens?

Do you know when PICED V4 will be released?

PICED v4 - soon. We can't give timeframes here, it leads to disappointment if they are not met for some reason. The extensive internal testing before release can throw up some wierd ones at the last moment, making promises just leads to grumpiness all around.

    Colour Templates

    HI

I have been designing CTA for customers for awhile now, and have never used the templates as they are limited in there size. So have built my own for every installation

What do you mean by templates being limited in their size ? Are you referring to each template having a fixed number of tabs ?

yeah I think he means that the layout of menus etc doesnt leave much room for a "usuable area" for buttons.... nothing to do with file size.

Thats corret (see above reply) i find the layout(templates) limits the amount of buttons sometime, and there can be not enough tabs, so have found it easier to use the button/Tabs in PICED and make my own templates
