Having a problem with the programming leads (3) for B/W touch, in the last few weeks have leads that will not connect to the ctouch but when used on other ctouchs work fine, and the reverse is true. My big problem is trying to find the combination that works and dose not work.

    Dave,

I've been having this problem for years. Every time I ask someone from CIS if other people have reported this problem they tell me no!

    Guys

    More info is needed please...

Are you using the leads on a laptop?

Are you using a PCMCIA serial port? If so what make & model?

Are you using a USB to serial adaptor? If so what make & model?

During development products are extensively tested. Howerver it is simply impossible to test every combination of available hardware - the combinations are close to infinite.

If you are able to provide more information, it MAY be possible to track down the whys and wherefores.

    More info as requested.
This has only started in the last few months and can be reproduced every time which should help, There is some combination of lead and touch that always work and some combination that never work, swapping the bad lead to a different touch and it will work every time and the reverse is also true.
I have a touch on deck that was made 29 June 2005 and lead that does not work here at moment if there is any more info you require.

    Hardware.
    Dell Tower or Acer Laptop
Belkin FSU409 USB to serial lead

    Piced gives Error 14603
    Toolkit Error 3051

    Hi Dave

When the trouble started, was that just after changing laptops?

Did you buy the USB to serial converter and have trouble after that?

Did anything else in the configuration you use change between the before & after troubles?

Have you been able to use a Dontronics USB adaptor? If you have, does it work with that?

I'll pass all this on to the right people and see what can be done. I cannot promise though - USB especially is a pain. Some adaptors are not very good.

Just as a side note, don't mean to hijack the thread but.... I have been looking at getting a new laptop, my old PIII Toshiba is getting tired and has an intermittent LCD display fault.
I was amazed to find that an entry level Toshiba Tecra A3, ~$1500 actually has a serial port and a printer port and Windows XP Professional!!
The computer dealer said that Toshiba had responded to customer concerns and started bringing back serial ports on some of their laptop computers.
So to everyone out there looking at getting a laptop for C-Bus programming, don't despair and put up with a USB to serial adapter, do some shopping around and see if you can find one with a built in serial port.
    Regards,
    Michael.

I can change the ctouch lead(s) till get one that works ok every time - change back to bad one(s) and fails every time again.
But this in not true if I take the bad leads to different ctouchs, they work on some and not others

    Aarrgghhh!!!

This one is going to be an absolute pig to try and understand.

I'll ask around. It may come to asking you to send back one of the dodgy leads - if it comes to that we will contact you.
