... well to answer my question I bought a new one yesterday. The real question is is it worth it / possible to get the broken one repaired ? I am in the UK if it matters. And before anyone asks its really dead, no lights no response and its been working fine for easily 3 years.

    Thanks for any advice

Hmm... Sadly, its out of warranty. It may or may not be repairable, it depends on whats wrong with it. Until sent back, though, you won't know. My guess is that a repair is probably not economic.

Was there some event that might have killed it? Lightening strike nearby, or something like that? If such an external event did occur, then use it to learn from for next time. Surge protection, for example, is not perfect but is better than nothing.

Well the one I bought in August died last night. Is this common with PACs ?
All of the other 46 units are absolutely fine and have been for years.

Is the logic I have written somehow running it hot ?

I am wondering if I should try the Wiser now instead ?

No, it isn't common. It would be interesting to know if there is some environmental factor causing this. It could be difficult to identify though.

    No.

If you have a Wiser on the site, then there is probably no need for a PAC, unless you need the serial ports.

Another advantage of a PAC is that it's C-Bus powered, so that if C-Bus is up, the PAC is up. The PAC also is less likely to be accidentally un-plugged or moved, etc.

    Thanks guys,

I actually meant 'buy' a wiser rather than another pac - i don't have a wiser at the moment.

I luckily have a battery backed UPS in with the CBUS kit so I can run the wiser off that.
