    Is it possible to use a L5508D1A dimmer to dim a 500w lamp. The lamp has 25 x 20w halogen bi-pin globes driven by a big 12v toroidal transformer. If not then what are my options. Had thought of replacing the 20w globes with 10w as a starting point as when this lamp is on its like a mini sun.

    I think you need;

    * 4 x 1ch dimmer @ 2.5A per channel
    * Professional dimmer
    * Version 1 dimmer (black box) (10A per module shared on 4 channels)

    The L5508D1A's channels are rated at 1A each. For a 240V system this equates to 240W per channel. You will need a higher power dimmer, like a Professional or Architectural dimmer.

    The cheapest currently-available dimmer for this job would be the L5504D2U universal dimmer. It's channels are rated at 2.5A (600W).
