I have been advised that there are forthcoming changes to the dimmer modules available. Is there any documentation on the new products, and comparisons with the products they replace?

Can you please be more specific about which units you are expecting changes for?

There is a very large new range of Professional and Architectural dimmers that are now available. Are these what you're referring to? These ranges effectively replace the 4x5A, 2x10A and 1x20A Professional dimmers as well as the existing 12 x 10A/12A/16A/20A Professional Architectural dimmers, although the former will continue to be available for a while.

Well we have applications currently using the 4x5A and the 12x10A dimmers, the latter of which has always been a build-to-order long lead time item anyway.

I'm interested in the implications for (a) spares/replacements, (b) options for extending existing systems and (c) new applications, in that order of priority.

For example, if I have an enclosure with 2 4x5A dimmers in it and one fails, what do I do next?

The 4 x 5's will continue to be made for a while, so I wouldn't expect any short-medium term issues there.

As for how long parts will continue to be available, that's a question for your local sales and support staff.

Regarding extending systems and new applications, no functionality has been removed. In fact, the new Architectural dimmers can do dozens and dozens of things that the old 12-channel dimmers could only dream of. The new Professional and Architectural dimmers are available in 3, 6 and 12 channel versions which, I'd expect, would cover just about any need.

Policy is that spares are to be available for a long, long time (5 to 10 years).

I would not be concerned about the existing Pro (turtle) dimmers being available. If you only want 1 or 2 channels of dimming, these will be the only way the do that for quite some time.

Does this mean that I can still source a replacement old-style 12ch 10A architectural dimmer if I need one?

Are the prices comparable to the products they're replacing or will they reflect the additional features?

Whilst I can't speak for sales, Clipsal's typical work practices should mean that it's not a problem for some years.

Pricing is something you'll need to talk to your local sales guys about. I vaguely recall that the Infinity Professional dimmers are similar in price to the old 12-channel dimmers and the Infinity Architectural dimmers are a bit more.
