Dimming 3phase lighting circuits

    [FONT=&quot]In a project I have to dim couple of 3phase lighting circuits of 1KVA each.
    I was ready to offer 3 channels of 2A (L5504D2A) for every 3phase circuit but some colleagues of mine insist that this is wrong.[/FONT]
    [FONT=&quot]They believe that I should install 3phase dimmer packs, which can be controlled either digitally using its DMX512 interface or analog by using the additional 8-pole DIN connector.[/FONT]

    Never on Sunday

    I had took a decision to never begin a new tread on Sunday, because usually no ones reply. So I am coming back today. :D

    It should work

    Without knowing your exact application, I don't see a problem with your proposal.
    After all, it is really just a bunch of loads spread across 3 phases as opposed to a 3 phase device, eg. motor.(assuming in a 230/400V system they are 230V rated fixtures, treat like single phase loads with neutral to each)
    Timing and synchronisation of dimming across all loads probably isn't critical or necessary.
    Make sure each dimmer only has 1 phase connected to it.
    Provide sufficient labelled protection/isolation facilities and you have a degree of flexibility in the case of failure of a dimmer or dimmer channel without losing all lights.

    Having said this, I'm not an expert on lighting, more an industrial guy.

    Use a universal dimmer as they can have poly phase supply on the one unit

    this dimmer would be a better option otherwise go toward architectural range
    and one dimmer channel per phase. the load of 1KVA is that like 330watts per phase
    or 1000watts per phase. sorry I am tired.

    if each channel is on the same group address the dimming will appear uniform anyway - you will be unable to pick up any slight difference by eye.
