I have HomeGate 2.5 that is running on a computer with a touchscreen monitor. I've set up the computer to start the software automatically every time the computer is restarted. The computer runs 24/7 and it has a task to reboot at 4.00am every day. Every 7th-10th reboot "Error 14020 - Information is missing or incorrect - There is no C-Bus project selected" is displayed.
After I press OK. the following mesage comes on "Error 14012 - An Error has occured - Error connecting to C-Gate".
Pressed OK again and then I have "Error 14012 An Error has occured - Error connecting to C-Gate. Please start C-Gate and try again".
After another OK pressed "Project Details Wizard comes on with the following page:" Select C-Bus project". I click on the "C-Bus project" drop down menu and is empty. There is no project to select from.
According to these error messages, looks like C-Gate didn't start. There is no keyboard connected to the computer so I cannot press CTRL+Alt+Del to check the Task Manager. Another thing, when I go through these windows, there is no cancel button. I cannot get out of this circle. The only option I have is to press the power button.
Does anybody have an idea. As I said the error comes on approximately once a week. Except this problem the system runs well.

    Thanks.

Hi, the error is correct, C-Gate hasn't started. This is occuring form time to time (Homegate not correctly starting C-Gate automatically) and we have not found the cause yet.

I would recommend that you explicitly start C-Gate before starting Homegate and the problem should go away. If you are running Windows 2000 or XP (which you should for a control product) you can setup C-Gate to run as a Windows Service using 3rd party "Jave as Windows Service" products. I think there are some freeware ones available. Search the forum for suggestions and some C-gate specific solutions posted by other forum members.

At the moment I have both cgate.jar and HomeGate in the startup menu, second one starting with a 4 sec delay. I put that delay (using a batch file) because I thought that sometimes HG started before java. But it didn't fix the problem.

Hmmm... have you tried a longer delay? say 10 seconds. Would be interesting to know if that works around the problem.

We will of course endevour to fix the underlying problem, but if the above works it could provide useful information to us to help resolve the problem.

I changed the delay to 10 sec and the task to reboot the computer every hour. I'll let you know the outcome.
On the other hand will anybody have a look at the other issue to have an option to get out of the loop? An enabled Cancel button?
    Thanks.

    Log file

Does HomeGate create a log file? At the moment my computer reboots every hour. When I am in the office I can check if Homegate starts with no errors but when I'm not I have no idea what happens. The computer reboots regardless the state of Homegate. With a log file I can check what happened in those 15 hours I was not in the office.
    Thanks.

It does and it is activated using commandline parameters when you launch HomeGate. From the documentation:

    /log=enable enables the logging
/log=save enables the logging and saves it to a log fil
/log=append enables the logging and appends it to the log file

sounds like /log=append is the one you want.

To configure the log select the Show Log item from the Options menu.

10 sec delay helped but didn't fix

I've changed the delay to 10 sec and after approx. 150 reboots the error came up again. The delay made a very good improvement but didn't fix the problem. At the moment I am keeping the 10 sec delay and I am using Java Service Wrapper to start Java as Windows Service. I hope I won't see that ugly message again.

Thanks to steve_mcneill for his suggestion.

Thanks for the extra feedback. Could you confirm the exact error message logged when it fails in the 1 in 150 time?

As you see, there is no reply from C-Gate at all. I had my keyboard connected and I was able to check what applications were running (3 hours later, at 7.00am). It was no java.exe. I had only jusched.exe.

    I hope this will help.
