Building a house in FNQ and the slab is due to go down in a few weeks. Doing a review of best practices to help minimise the effect of power surges and the dredded lightening problems.

    I am thinking about:

    1. Putting in a seperate earth stake at the back of the house in the foundation and feeding this up the block work before the bond beam is poured and the used to ground the TV and FM antenna mountings. This earth could also be used to ground and antenna feedline at the attenna location.

    2. Putting in a seperate earth stake immediately below where the two C-Bus housings and 4 home automation housings are going. Then run a 4mm2 to the C-Bus earth into the 4C48FD Clipsal housing. Also running the same earth all 4HA cans. All this gear in located roughly in the centre of the house and about 15 metres from the main house meter/switchboard.

    3. Putting in 970LCA (lightening Arrestor) 970DE (Decoupling Element) and 970RM (Surge overvoltage arrestor) in the main switchboard.

    4. Installing a number of 2025SF surge protection power points on various mostly expensive gear PLasma, fridge etc etc

    5. Gas arrestor Krone distributor as the first connection point for the incoming telco line with the earth point around three metres from the main meter/switchboard for the gas arrestor earth point.

    6. All out going 24VAC feeds to the irrigation system will have MOV's on each line and the earth return for the MOV's around 2 metres to the meter/switchboard.

    7. The gatehouse where there is intercom via a phone pair and access control, cctv camera to have a seperate earth stake to ground housings and also shielded cables.

Like to get the expert eyes looking over the above and would value any input and other suggestions that might assist to minimise the lightening and power surge risk. End of the day nothing will stop a direct hit or one not far way.

    Thanks,
