    Hi,

We had problems over the last 2 months with the failure of the old 5000 CT series touch screens.
The following happened on 2 different occasions with different screens:

    1. When we tried to update the software on the screens, we had to download the latest firmware to the screens. In doing this, it caused the touch screens to fail to such a degree that the units became completely dysfunctional.
In both instances, the screens were completely dead after the firmware upgrades and we could not download anything to it any more.

We are using the latest PICED software that is available on the website.

The problem is that the clients now holds us responsible for the failure of these units.
Is there a way to revive these screens or does it need replacement.

It should be nearly impossible to "brick" a touch screen. A lot of work went into making the update process reliable.

When the touch screen starts up, does it make a ticking noise?

    Hi Darren,

Can't recall if it makes the ticking noise on both, but one of them definitely does it.

    Regards
    Hein.

Any possible update on the above-mentioned problem in order to resolve this issue?

    Thanks.

If the touch screen is ticking then it means that the core part of the software is still running. It should be possible to connect to the touch screen from PICED and transfer firmware. It may take a few tries to get it to connect, but it should work.

If you can't get it to work, log the C-Touch messages during the attempted connection/transfer and supply them to Tech Support.

    Hi,

I have tried in vain to resuscitate the mentioned screens.

It just refuses to connect to the screens, telling me that it cannot establish communication.

Must clearly be a bug somewhere that causes these screens to stop working.

    Any other suggestions?

It is possible to brick touch screens when updating the firmware. I did it to two units some years ago.

The touch screen needs a fully wired RS232 cable including RTS, CTS, DCD, etc.

In my case I had mis-wired a RS45 plug connecting to a Ethernet to serial adapter.

I was told by support at the time that the only option was to get exchange units. This was a very costly lesson!

It sounds like they may need to go back to the factory.

Depending on the client and how much your time is worth you would probably find the most economi way around the situation is to replace the touchscreens with new mk2 non logic units..

Much more stable unit in my experience, you get warranty on the product, and generally easier and faster to worth with.. Plus bigger better screen etc..

    Cheers..

    Thanks for the responses.

We'll probably go that route then.

    Regards.

    Hey Brodsky,

I'm sure you already scoped this but just be mindful that the new MKII unit also has a larger wallbox so can be a PITA if in a rendered masonry wall.
    112mm x 106mm x 40mm vs 178mm x 121mm x 55mm.

    Good Luck with your swap,

    Brad
