    Hi

We have a 20year old C bus system. The light switches have started flickering and become non responsive throughout the house. If I continuously press a button quickly it will eventually work.
Spoke to an Electricain and they said that it’s tough to repair and the older parts aren’t replaceable and need new parts which may not be able to talk to the old network. He found a couple burnt out relays when inspecting.
    Help!

    Hi Dinesh,

Probably a good idea to state where you are located? I am certain there will be a nearby C-Bus Approved installer or an EcoXpert on the forum here who can more properly assess your C-Bus network issues and resolve them.

My concern is that the Electrician that you report you have spoken too actually may not have the necessary skill in C-Bus. I would say this is evidenced by his advice:
    1. 'It's tough to repair' - it's not really if you have the appropriate training, skills and parts
    2. 'New parts which may not be able to talk to the old network' - which is not true, new C-Bus modules are backward compatible with older C-Bus network components. Old modules and switches talk to new relays, switches, controllers and dimmers just perfectly.

The symptoms that you report (a comms issue) can often be caused simply by failing power supplies, but other issues can also show the same symptoms you report. It is likely you have the 'Beige Brick' power supplies, and if they physically show browning of the cover, you are pretty likely to be looking at the cause of your problems. A skilled C-Bus person will likely be able to get you up and running quickly with some new power supplies.

I am not saying it will necessarily cost 'next to nothing' to fix, but avoid advice from those that say things like 'its all old / hard to repair / hard to get parts etc etc' as this is wrong and they are probably just trying to rope you into an expensive replacement program to benefit themselves.

So tell us where you are so some locals can message you.

    Cheers,

    Brad

    Hi Dinesh,

Well I'm more than happy for you to fly me up there to help resolve this for you, ;-P Two days on, two days off, know what I mean.

but I am sure one of the locals will be in contact.

If you get no bites, you can also search for a local EcoXpert - 'Light and Room Control - Residential'.

    Good Luck
