General Input Unit Outputs high voltage

    I am trying to monitor a 4-20ma sensor using a 5504GI

    I was getting weird values from the sensor.

    after measuring the voltages

    24.5v AC on the VIN terminals

    I was getting 35.5v on the VC-DC out terminals.

    I assume I should have been getting 24vdc +-10 % as per spec sheet ??

    I uninstalled and put on the bench.

    with nothing else connected..

    24vc AC on the input terminals gives 35v DC on the DC-DC output terminals.

    The sensor I am connecting has a MAX voltage of 35V so I am worried if it is ok.

    The Manual say is it 24v unregulated and the specs say 24v +- 10%

    I've had exactly the same problem. I had Clipsal support look at. A Clipsal support engineer came to site. The 24 VAC from the plug pack gets rectified to DC hence the 35V.

    I can't remember their explanation but I do recall it seemed it had slipped under the radar. Clipsal supply a 24VAC plug pack with the General Input Unit so you would think it would be supplied with a plug pack that gave you 24 V on the General Input Unit voltage output.


    I changed the plug pack to a 16 VAC.

    Is it okay ? What got me looking at this is a 0-20ma sensor died. Perhaps unrelated to the 35 V because the specs suggested it should work. But for me I would change the plug pack. 16 VAC is a common plug pack used for alarm systems.
