Could I have some advice please on globes for my C-BUS system.
the whole house is controlled via CBUS and I have approx. 20 lights throughout the house , these being 100W halogen spotlight types. the last few energy bills were horrendous, and after switching the whole house power off then one at a time flicked all the circuits back on, there was a considerable jump in the meter as the lights were turned on!
I was wondering if there is a LED/energy saver globe that will be compatible with this so I can cut the energy bill?
    glad of any suggestions...
    thx.

    Hi ikr88
100w halogen fittings don't sound like something I would expect to see in a house.
To get some good advice you will need to supply the lamp wattage and type (eg MR16, GU10).
You should also mention whether the lights are connected to dimmers or relays.
Also whether your current levels of light output are just right, a bit high or a bit low.

It may well be worth paying to have an energy audit or some checks done on your home if the power bill has jumped substantially.

I once had a customer who had burned up more than $1000 in a matter of weeks due to a leaking hot water system.

also, all the lights are connected to dimmers. And the brightness at moment is adequate, but would be ok with less.

I dont know the rules on posting non clipsal stuff here, but dumping those dinosaurs for dimmable LEDs would be the way to go.

15W (5x3W) dimmables complete with drivers for $55 a unit from an East coast online supplier did my house.

PM me for details if you want.

Are these suitable for the older din rail dimmer or do you need a universal?

The drivers are universal so either works, but I find the universal dimmer unit causes them to flick 2x on power off, the trailing edge versions dont flick. I only have 1 uni dimmer module so I moved all my incands to that and the LEDs to the trailing units.

    Hi ikr88

As far as I know there is no suitable energy saving, dimmable lamp to replace your 100w R80 reflector lamps and use your existing fittings.

You could save some power by going for lower wattage lamps according to the needs in the various rooms.

If you want more energy efficient lighting I think you are best to find a CBus installer and get them out for a quote.

Aren't the older original DIN rail dimmers units leading edge?

Are you saying you have them on a leading edge dimmer?

The webs site says trailing or universal - thanks for the lead by the way.

Hello, thanks for all your input. in the meantime ive lashed out and bought a LEDlux 11W ES dimmable LED 800 lumen GLS globe in warm white(C-Bus compatible), and have just tried it in one of the lights and it works perfectly! and dims perfectly too! :D
I will trial it for a few weeks before I look into replacing the whole lot.

    Hi ikr88

    That is useful information.
Seems that you may have found a cost effective solution for your existing fittings.

I spent quite a bit of time looking for lamps since what you ask would be a fairly common request.

Osram makes something similar but I don't think it is readily available here in Australia.
But I think we might see more lamp options in the future.

Perhaps you can post some more info once you have them all changed over.

With dimmable LED's or compact fluorescents lamps there can be issues with flickering at low levels or ignition problems in the case of CF.
Perhaps a change to the dimmer minimum levels can fix that if you run into those problems.
Another issue that can arise is where energy saving lamps wont turn off completely on dimmers.

The change from 100w to 11w per fitting sounds good though.

My efforts to find the lumen output of a 100w R80 lamp did not come up with many results so please post you opinion of the lighting level in the rooms.

If you do know whether your dimmers are leading or trailing edge type would be useful for other people too.

    Regards
    Daryl

I've got some Choice COB's and Brightgreen running on leading edge dimmers and work perfectly. No flicker and dim really low
