    Hi,

Does anyone have a sure proven method of placing a graphic into HomeGate, and having its transperancy work.

I cant load a Graphic file, with a transparent back ground, into HomeGate and have the transperancy work.

I get the defualt BLACK background, of the graphic appear, each time.

This really sucks when your placing a pretty button over a background image.
You see the pretty button, and its ugly surround.

My understanding is that Transparent GIFs & PNGs are not directly supported.

Instead transparency is set in a very crude way - I think it's done by checking the colour of the bottom left or right pixel, then by turning on "transparency" the software doesn't render any of that PARTICULAR coloured pixel to screen (effectively making it transparent).

So, you need to ensure that the background is exactly the same colour as that "detection pixel". That is very hard to do with JPGs because there's a colour shift and artifacts around the image, due to the compression routines of that image format.

To do it properly, you need a non-lossy image format like GIF, BMP or TIFF (if they are supported).

I have a really old version of Homegate, so that might be incorrect. Someone else please step in if the info I have given above is incorrect.

    Cheers, John

What John has said is correct. Refer to the help file Image topic and about halfway down there is a section called "Transparent Images".

Most of the images provided with the software work well with the transparency option set.

Are you having problems with all images, or just ones you have obtained/drawn yourself ?

Jus the ones I have obtained or drawn myself.

I'll give it another go, once my functionality is finished.

However I am also, employing a graphics artist to template a few Themes for HomeGate. Backgrounds, Buttons, Page Groups etc...

I'll be happy to share these once finished.
