I have bought a c-touch colour which incorporates a network connection outlet and I also bought a network interface - do these do one and the same or is the network outlet only for programming the c-touch?

In any case have used the network interface to programme up the gear so far on bench as the c-touch power supply is installed in the roof of the installation house and I am too lazy to get it out.

Maybe the forum could have a posting area for people to sell/trade gear? Just a thought may go against the grain with the clipsal guys though?

Anyway - might be able to sell on ebay?

    424.77ex gst to be precise!

The ethernet interface on the Colour C-Touch does not provide an Ethernet to C-Bus gateway, so you haven't wasted your money :)

In that case money well spent!

Thanks for the good news! Or is that bad news (can't sell it now lol)

Out of interest what is the Network interface for? I gather it can program the unit but is that all?

The CTC can use the network connection to access IP Cameras and web pages. You can also use the pascal scripting language in the CTC to access on IP based services.

The Network Interface works just like a PC interface except that it has an Ethernet connection instead. That means that if you're at a PC and it's on the same Ethernet network as your Network Interface then you can comission, configure, run Schedule Plus/Homegate, etc all without having to get out of your chair.

Thanx for the feedback guys. Anywhere access - on a closed network was what I was looking for in the network interface and it does that job great - occasionally lose a packet or two but I think that is more than likely the temp cable I made up to commission. I did the bench test programming up over my wireless network so the unit operates under the most demanding network situations. It took a while to get it set up but the payback is huge, considering I can program from a pc within 1km or a wried connection.

I would definately recommend to anyone going for the ethernet module over the usb/rs232 as the versitlity factor is great.

The web access through the c-touch sounds like fun except the difficulty of no interface (qwerty touch keyboard on the screen?) sounds almost like those internet fridges. Though I haven't played with one to know what their interface feels like.

Thanks again for the info hopefully this post can help other "newbs" understand the various interfaces and their purpose.

You wouldn't use it for normal surfing, but it's great for live weather info etc.... just point it at a dedicated widget page.
