    All,

I posted a question last week about dimmers, so thanks to all those who responded. The upshot is that all the 240v stuff is now complete and seems to be working fine.

Today I connected all the network 'stuff', and now I'm stuck again.....

I've no input units in place yet, but all the output devices are cabled, and I have a c-bus light on all of them. The 5500CN is also in, and I have amber lights on both the ethernet & c-bus sides.

I've configured the IP side of it, and all appears to be fine. I can telnet to it, and also browse it on my local network (I can see the Lantronix Web Manager).

I think I'm right in saying that the C-Bus toolkit will only connect via a COM port, so I've configured the Lantronix Redirector software to point the IP address of the 5500CN at COM4. I'm using Toolit 1.6.1, and have set the default interface to be serial/com4. If I try and "Search for networks", it searches through Com1 & 3, and when it gets to 4 I see:

Failed to connect to any service
Attempting to connect to any service
    192.168.0.150:10001

It tries repeatedly before giving up.

The 192 address is the address of the CNI (which I can browse), and I've used port 10001 as it appeared to be the default port (as shown in the Lantronix Web Manager).

So......I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but think it must either be the config on the 5500CN (port no?), or the Toolkit is setup wrong. The java log (sorry, couldn't copy it) had a reference to "localhost/127.0.0.1 opened command interface from port: 2353". I definitely don't understand the reference to the localhost/127.0.0.1 address entry, and if the toolkit thinks it's on that subnet, then that could be the problem.

Any suggestions how I get the Toolkit to see my network?
    Thanks,
    David.

You don't need to use the Lantronix Redirector software, just configure your CNI with a valid IP address for your computer and set the port to 14000 using the Lantronix 'Device Installer' software.

In Toolkit, double click on your project and then right click your local network, select 'edit network', type = CNI, Address = whatever you setup using the Lantronix "Device Installer' software, Port = 14000.

Select OK and click on 'Open Network', you show now be able to connect and scan your C-Bus network.

    Hi Peter,
Brilliant, thanks. Easy when you know how! It took me a while to realise that I needed a burden in place, but I've now replaced that with the software version. Out of interest, is there any significance to port 14000?

    Many thanks again,
    David.

In V2 C-Bus software days there was no support for Ethernet. COM1 to 4 only. So we needed to use redirector software to route ethernet to a virtal COM port so the V2 software could scan using a CNI.

A bug in the 3rd party software from Lantronix forces you to enter a Port number 11000 less than the port number. Now since the default port number of a CNI is 10001.... that would give us a negative port number.

So we basically decided to make 14000 our standard. With toolkit, we no longer need to change the port number....

Theres a little history lesson 4ya.
