    Hi Guys,

    I need help ASAP,
I have 9 blinds across the back of my house
I know I need 1 x power and 1 x data pink cat at each blind for c bus.

My question is can the data just be daisy chained to each data for nine
blinds or do they need to be individual for each blind:eek:.

    Thanks

Assuming you're using the C-Bus Shutter Relays, then the data and power can be daisy chained from one to the next.

The other thing to be aware of is that you can only use one motor per shutter relay.

    Thanks Nick

What i am worried about is i have seen blinds that are out of sink
so i want each one to go up individually
then i can set what ones i want to go up and down if that makes sence.

I will get sparky to do it tomorrow.

The C-Bus Shutter Relay can only be connected to a single blind motor. From that point onwards, which blinds operate together, and which ones can operate independently is all to do with how they are programmed, not how they are wired.

As NickD says, if you have planned for 1 Shutter Relay per blind, and you run both power and C-Bus to each location you plan to install a Shutter Relay, then you should be fine.

If the Shutter Relays are not directly adjacent the blind motors they are controlling, make sure that you don't forget the cabling to connect the motor to the Shutter Relay too.

    Thanks Newman,

Lets see if I have this right, I have a power point at each blind and pink cat

I will be having a shutter Relay back at a central hub for each blind
so then I would need to run 1.5mm lighting cable from each blind back to the
    shutter Relay.

    I hope this is right.

Do you use the same principle for ceiling fans aswell !!

Hmm, OK, looks like you've got some things confused there. There are 2 primary ways of installing the Shutter Relays, and each requires different pre-wiring. It sounds to me like you are planning to wire your installation as if you're installing Shutter Relays at each blind, yet you say you want to mount them centrally.

    1. A Shutter Relay located next to each Motorised Blind.
In this case, you need to run C-Bus to each location where there is a Shutter Relay. You also need to provide an Active, Neutral and Earth at each Shutter Relay.

The Shutter Relay unit needs to be mounted inside a mains-rated enclosure. A dedicated enclosure is available from Clipsal, or you can use any 2M wide mains-rated enclosure. Inside this enclosure, you connect the in-coming Active and Neutral to the input terminals of the Shutter Relay. You connect the Active Up, Active Down and Neutral connections of the blind motor to the Shutter Relay output terminals. You loop the Earth connection to the motor inside this enclosure too.

    2. All Shutter Relays centrally located
In this case, the wiring requirements are different. You only need to run the C-Bus cable to the enclosure that contains all the Shutter Relays, since there are no C-Bus devices mounted near the motorised blinds themselves.

You only need to run a single Active, Neutral and Earth to the enclosure containing all the Shutter Relay units. You connect the Active and Neutral to the input terminals of the Shutter Relay.

For every motorised blind, you need to run a 4-core cable from the motorised blind back to it's corresponding Shutter Relay in the central enclosure. This connects the Active Up, Active Down, Neutral and Earth back to the centralised Shutter Relays.

    Newman,

Thanks you, option 2 is the way i want to go.

For the motorized blind the motors are a class 2 double insulated motor
as such an earth connection is not needed as per somfy specs

So I think this means that I only need to run 3 core 2 active 1 neutral.

    Thanks

    Mark

If Somfy say it doesn't need an earth, then it doesn't need an earth.
