    Hi all,

I have started a project with 2 units connected
    5500PS
    5500PCU

I have installed toolkit 1.7.1 and connected the 2 units with USB cable
I was able to open the project and the network running

However when I try to scan the network for the units it says something like "cannot open network, Please check your connections to this network"
    [See attachment 1]

Note: I can see the unit/comm LED flashes during the checking/communications.

Secondly, I have tried to manually add the 5500PCU unit in the database and then transfer it to the network.

However the dialog "save location" doesnot let me select where the info can save to DB? or Network? Software error?? can't drag down the dialog nor maximise it...
    [See attachment 2]

    please help...thanks

Do you have a burden and a clock enabled?

I'm not entirely sure that just a PC Input unit by itself is capable of functioning as a C-Bus Network.. you may need an input unit...

    Newman? Don? Nick? Ashleigh?

    Mr Mark,

I couldn't see any unit in the network. So I can't really enable or disable anything.

But I can enable or disable the unit from database only. (I only enabled the clock)

Note: I have tried disable both of them but still no luck...:(

    Duncan,

I have tried to connect other units like (5512RVF) output relay and (5504D2A) output dimmer. But the problem still remain. Could the 5500PCU fault?:(

I have tried to scan for the network and it came back as "Failed to Identify Network Project Name"
But I have already got the Project name (DANGS) and network name (Theperfect).

Hi guys... Thanks for your replies, the problem is fixed.

All these troubles only caused by one thing called BURDEN... I have to manually using the learn mode to activate the network burden and the clock before I can get any communication happening.

One thought about this CBUS system is that, I found that it contradicts a little. Well you see I read most of the traninng manuals saying each network needs at least one network burden and we can activate the burden in some of the unit itself by software (Toolkit).

However in my case when i have the power supply, PC interface and output units (namely 5500PS, 5500PCU & 5512VRF) connected with the latest Toolkit 1.7.1 software. I still couldn't able to make the communications between the PC and the CBUS System. Because

No Burden, No network connection, and
    No network connection, No Burden

The problem is all about the network BURDEN because it has not bening activated (at least soflware wise).

By manually using the learn mode method the network burden is activated and bingo! it works beautifully..:)

Any thought on this guys? :)

Yeah, a lot of people prefer to not use the software burden and use a hardware one. Much easier and more obvious. Just plug it into a cbus RJ45 port and it's done.

The screenshot above shows the network still closed. My experience is that you need to open the network to scan it.

This is where learn mode will turn on the burden for you so that you can use toolkit. You can then disable the burden and use the hardware burden. Obviously you need an output unit for learn mode.

There was another thread somewhere that indicated that a key input was required to create a clock pulse (or something) and that the network would not really work without one.

Key input units don't generate the C-Bus clock, that job is done by output units or systems units (PCI's, PAC's, etc). A network as small as a PCI and a power supply is definitely going to require a burden to operate. It's hardly a network at all since the PCI has nothing to send it's messaged to.

There should have been a little pink thingy in the box the 5500PCU came in with an RJ-45 connector on the end of it. That's your hardware network burden for those times you can't access the software ones or you prefer the assurance of seeing the burden physically connected to the network.

There ain't No "little pink thingy in the box the 5500PCU came in with an RJ-45 connector.." I only see a cate5 cable, manuals and that's it.

Eventhough I don't need the burden now, I 've got everything going well but am I missing out something here?
