Hi there all I need a bit of advice in regards to using Homegate to control my C-Bus system. Di I need to use a Network interface between my PC and C-Bus network. I am planning to use a colour LG touchscreen to issue commands but I am not 100% sure on the interface issues. If anyone has any info it would be much appreciated.

Of course. How else are the commands going to get from your computer to C-Bus ?

If you are running home gate on the LG touch screen, you will need to use either a PCI or CNI to provide the connection. This assumes that the LG touch screen is basically a PC, otherwise you won't be able to run home gate.

Thanks Sasha. I thought that I could use the RS232 connection on the PC Interface instead of using a CNI. The touchscreen is basically just a computer just using the screen instead of a mouse. Can you see any other problems with that. Thanks for the help.

Just to clarify, you can use either a PC Interface 5500PC or an Ethernet Interface 5500CN with your touchscreen + Homegate.

Maybe I misunderstood your question. The term "network interface" applies generically to any interface to a C-Bus network, including PCIs and CNIs. You can use either of these to connect a PC to C-Bus.
I believe lots of people have done this and it works well.

One thing that I found... Win98 is defintely not stable enough to be reliable with Homegate. Use WinXP and a reasonable computer and it works fine.

The only reason I mention that is because I see a lot of people trying to save money by using an old spare computer as the "C-Bus Box". And nobody seems to like paying for another OS licence :)

If you have the time to fiddle, you can always run Linux and Wine.

Apparently homeGate runs OK in that environment... so we've heard.

This is of course, unsupported by CIS :D :D
