    Hello,

I know this has been discussed previously in numerous threads, but i was just wondering if anybody out in the field has actually setup ip cameras to work on the Color Touch Screen.

And if so, if they could provide examples of the ip camera's purchased, that is make and model etc.

Or should i be more patient and wait for the "upcoming" apgrade to the software which will allow better implementation of ip cameras in general. Are Clipsal also planning to sell compatible ip cameras??

    Thanks again in advance.

By "upcoming", are you referring to the upgrade which happened many months ago in version 3.7 ?

Version 3.7 added a Web Cam component which allows the use of virtually any web camera.

    Doh.

Oh, how stupid do i feel.

So you are saying Darren, that i no longer need a camera with the winbond chipset, any ip camera will do the job now?

So Sorry for such dumb question. I've actually downloaded the 3.7 version, havent read the "whats new" section obviously, and havent installed the 3.7 version, still running previous version at home.

Again sorry for not researching prior to posting...

    dak

PS, any suggestions on which cameras to buy, they will be for keeping an eye on the kids in the pool, as well as seeing who is at the front door. so i guess one camera for daylight, and one which is ok for night time as well.

Nick, if you are asking about the upgrade of software and firmware for the CTC then yes everything went ok, no issues.

I still havent purchased my ip cameras, as i would really like to get some feedback about what people are using in the field, and wanted to clarify if i could purchase any ip camera now, or if it still needs to have the winbond chipset.

    Regards dak

That is correct. Any ip camera which can serve up a JPEG image will work. The new Web Cam component in the software just streams across JPEG images on a regular basis.

    Not a problem.

I can't answer that as I am not an expert in security cameras. I should clarify my previous post to say that the new software will work with most IP based cameras. Most web cams these days connect via USB rather than Ethernet.

I assume USB ones will not work with C.C-Touch?

Correct. USB Cameras are not supported.

    Reason:

USB support in the CTC is very painful because of the way it always wants to install drivers - and clearly there is normally no access to "WindowsUpdate.com" or a CD drive on a CTC - so plug and play USB is not possible.

Stick to IP cameras and you should be ok.

    IP Camera Brand

Has anyone had any success with viewing IP cameras on CTC? If so could you list which brand.

    Cheers

I have tried it with a camera server from IP Box (model IP-200) and a camera from Axis (model 2100).

    ip box

    Darren

This may be a silly question, but when you talk about an ip box, i assume this is a server that you can connect multiple cameras (different types) to, and then have one connection to the CTC.

Do i need to have an ip box, can i just connect say the axis 225FD http://www.axis.com/products/cam_225/index.htm
camera direct to my LAN and view images from the camera on the CTC.
I believe you assign the camera an ip, and then just point the CTC software to that ip address.

Again, i assume that the ip box (server) allows you to install software which has enhanced control over the images the camera sees, but if i dont need that additional functionality, i dont need the ip box??????

    thanks again in advance.

    IP Cameras Via DVR

I was looking more at CCTV cameras ( 4 - internal mini-domes + 1 - external tube) which will be connected to a DVR. Each camera will have a static IP address and i was hoping to view each via the CTC, either on one page or an indiviual page for each camera.

    Cheers

Yes. In this case, it takes a single camera input. See http://www.canvision.net/products_ipcam_ip200.htm

    That is correct.

The main thing a camera server does for you is that you can plug in a camera of your choice. This is a good choice if you want some special characteristics (eg night vision) and you can't find a camera of the right sort with the built-in server.

    got em, but........

    Hi,

I received my 2 x Axis 225FD ip cameras yesterday. I connected one via cat5 and a POE injector to my LAN at home. The camera's ip address is 192.168.0.51. I am able to log onto and view the "LIVEVIEW" images on any of my connected pc's using both firefox browser and netscape browser. The camera serves a html page with the image streamed and it also has some links on the page which allow you to go in and setup various aspects of the camera.

If i put the ip address directly into the html page on the CTC /PICED software (that is not using the webcam wizard), I assume it tries to contact the camera, which has a server in it, and it tries to load the html page which i believe is trying to load or runs via an activeX control. Obviosly this is not going to work because we cannot load any activex controls to the CTC.

The axis control software allows for the camera to send the stream in different formats, motion jpeg, quicktime, java, but i assusme that any of these would be an issue for the same reason, cause we cannot load anything to the CTC.

Sorry about the rant, but can someone confirm my thinking...that for the CTC to work without an IP box, i need to tell the axis camera to send still images to the CTC, and then setup the CTC/PICED software to refresh as often as needed???? Or do i tell the axis camera to update the still images on a regular basis????

Any help / comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Correct

Yes. You need to find the URL which will return you a single static JPEG image and enter that into the Web Cam Image component. For the Axis IP-2100 camera, the URL would be http://192.168.0.51/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?camera=&, but it may be different for your model. If you use a web browser to view the camera in the normal way, you should find that there are various options and hopefully one will be to capture a single image. This will be the URL you need.

    No

Thank you so much Darren for the reply,

Is there an option in the CTC /PICED software that will tell the CTC to update the image automatically. I noticed that when you use the webcam wizard in the PICED software it creates a html file i think its called webcam.html, and in this file near the end of it is an option which says something like camera.update or image.refresh (sorry i cant remember what it says exactly) and it is set to 250. What does that mean? refresh every 250msec????

Darren, I guess, i just want to confirm, setting it up as you mentioned with the still images url, will i be able to set it up so that the image, even though it is a still image, will refresh automatically say 5 per sec.

Thanks again in advance. i appreciate the help.
