    Folks,
Have any of you come across a cBus installation / strategy that is capable of relaying IR signals from one room to another?

I was wondering about fitting multy sensors and a logic engine, PAC, screen ?., and reading IR codes then chucking them out again from a 232 port. I appreciate I would probably have to build the emitter modules, 232 wouldn?t be powerful enough on its own, but that will probably only need a line driver and a couple of discreet?s. (Possibly a 555 to create a carrier base) ? Enough of that ?

What I really need to know is if a multy-sensor is capable of capturing, and subsequently being polled for, an arbitrary code that has no internal meaning on the system. Whilst I am thinking I am also aware that the logic engine scan time might be an issue with repeating codes, volume and the like, but it will probably be possible to code around that with a little thought.

If it is possible it would open up some interesting possibilities, ie logic to control other IR capable devices.

I know I could use a 232 or based sensor to do the reading but that would involve additional cabling, which sort of misses the point I think.

    Any thoughts ?. ?

    Hi Alistair,

If you just want to pipe IR around, have a look at http://updates.clipsal.com/ClipsalOnline/ProductInformation.aspx?CatNo=8050EJ&ref=

If you want to do intelligent decision making on the IR codes, that is a whole lot trickier. It also requires specialised hardware and dedicated firmware to read the codes. Trying to do it in application level software on a PACA is not practical (you need the ability to time signals to better than 1mS resolution sometimes).

Multi-room Audio also incorporates the ability to pipe IR signals back to the Matrix Switcher form IR pickups connected to the amps, but this is only raw data with no processing.

    Cheers

The Multisensor cannot read any arbitrary IR code and 'pipe it around the C-Bus network', for want of a better term. The C-Bus IR codes can only be assigned to internal blocks within the unit.
