    Hi all,

Has anyone ever had a situation where one of the relays on a 5508D1AP 8 channel dimmer has jammed on and can't be switched off either on the unit itself or via the C-Bus Toolkit?

I had an electrician over today replacing a transformer on a downlight and he accidentally shorted the wires together which tripped the RCD on the dimmer but after restarting the dimmer it has now jammed open the relay on that channel and the lights can't be turned off without physically disconnecting the wire from the dimmer unit.

I'm just wondering if doing a factory reset on the dimmer unit is a worthwhile option to try to fix this or if anyone has had a similar issue and found a solution?

    Thanks
    David

I have found moving the cable to a spare channel , and reprogram normally works.

There is a guy that repairs units, who is on this forum.

So do you mean that after moving it to a spare channel and reprogramming it will reset the original channel that is jammed or is that channel no good any more?

Dimmers don't have relays, they have triacs which are electronic switches. Shorting the channel destroys the triac which leaves the channel permanently on. I suggest you contact Schneider support and see if they still repair these.

If you have a spare (i.e. unused) channel you can move the light to this channel and reprogram the device. That is what Laurence was suggesting. It will not fix the faulty channel.

Thanks Ashley, that makes perfect sense now and I appreciate the detailed info. Will get the electrician to contact Schneider support and see if they can repair it and will do a workaround with another channel in the meantime.

Schneider seems disinterested in repairs according to NZ distributor. However, on Youtube there's a video by somebody who paid a few quid for slightly better-speced Triacs and replaced damaged ones themselves.
