Last night one of my dimmers suddenly stopped working. It is only outputting around 25/70/40/40 volts out of the respective four channels. Input voltage is fine. No idea why. Is it normal for a whole dimmer to go kaput like this and rather than die, simply output these low voltages? It is only 18 months old.:(

The 4 channels are electrically completely independent. The 4 channels are physically and optically isolated from each other. All 4 channels are driven from a common microcontroller though. What are the channel indicators doing when you try and turn the channels on?

Note also that it's normal to see some voltage on the outputs, even when the loads are off. This is because of the EMC components fitted to the dimmer channels. The exact voltage measured will depend almost entirely on the type and size of load connected to each channel.

All the leds are behaving normally. If I turn on the channels the voltage output from the channels are only those mentioned (25/70/40/40).

What do you mean exactly by behaving normally? Do you mean that:
    - the channel LEDs are off when the group address is turned off?
    - the channel LEDs are on with a solid colour when the group address is turned on? If so, are the channel LEDs orange or green?
    - None of the LEDs on the unit are flashing when the channel is turned on?
    - Are the Unit and C-Bus LEDs both solidly lit?

Can you see the unit on the network when scanning with Toolkit?

I'd be interested to know what loads you have connected to each of the channels.

Are you using either Area Addressing or Logic in the unit?

What is the voltage on each of the channels when the channels are turned off? Does this change when the channels are turned on?

    Hi Newman

Thanks for your response and my apologies for the delay in replying. Before reading your post (as there was some urgency to get the lights back up and running) I replaced the apparently fault dimmer with a spare.

I'll need to reconnect and test as you've suggested.

    Many thanks

    Andrew
