I need to update some labels, and create some new ones, on a c-bus installation, but I don't have the original project file which was used to create them. Am I correct in thinking that if create a new label with the toolkit software, this will wipe all the other existing labels, which will revert to being blank, or will the toolkit software just update the relevant labels which I want to change, and leave all the others as is?

    Hi Neil,

Within the DLT labelling dialogue, you can right click on individual labels and select "Save this label to network" or some thing like that. This will allow you to modify a few individual labels without messing with the rest.

    Cheers,
    Mark.

I've set up some DLT switches on my test kit, and have identified a problem here.

It is true that once the DLT labelling routine has been opened, you can then right click on an individual DLT label to change only that label, leaving the rest unaffected. However, when coming out of the DLT labelling section of the toolkit, you are then presented with a question "DLT labels have been modified, do you want to save these changes?" If you answer no, then the newly modified label remains on the switch as you have just changed it, and all other labels are unaffected. So it would appear that this is the correct way to go about it. However, there is a problem here.

If you then later reopen the DLT labelling section of the toolkit, the changes you have just made do not appear on the screen, despite the fact that the modified label does remain within the switch. So what you see on the screen does not match what is out there on the working system. The more labels which are changed in this way, the worse the problem will become.

If however, when the individual DLT labels are modified by right clicking, and then when closing down this section you answer "yes" to the question "DLT labels have been modified, do you want to save these changes?" then the updates can be seen on screen the next time this DLT modification section of the toolkit is opened. Unfortunately, whilst writing the DLT mods to wherever they are stored within the system, all the rest of the DLT labels are overwritten with whatever is shown in the toolkit software. If you don't have the original and correct project file, then these will simply be group numbers, so all of a sudden, the DLT switches throughout the system will have their labels wiped, and will typically end up with labels such as "Group 16", rather than the meaningful label which previously appeared.

Does anybody know of a way around this problem? It would appear to me that the only satisfactory way of modifying a small number of labels as opposed to every label on the system, is to obtain the original project file from a good backup, and then the labels displayed will be correct, rather than simply group numbers.

Any comments and suggestions will be gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Hi Neil

I think you can choose whether to save the labels to the network and database or just the database, in the DLT labelling bit of Toolkit??

    Cheers

I think what I really need, if it is possible some how or other, is to read all the current labels from the network, then write them all to the database. Then, whenever I change a label, all I need to do is to save to both the database as well as the network. Any further changes will then be facilitated.

Does anybody know if there is a way of doing this, ie reading all the current labels which exist, and writing them to a database, prior to making any changes?

If anybody has any ideas on this, your comments will be gratefully received.

The guru's can confirm, but as I understand it there is no way to read the labels FROM the network.
