Just wanted to say that beam angle reduces the light when it increases.

Sometimes it is possible to create a visual impression with low beam angle, such as drawing attention to a painting or feature.

I sometimes hear people saying that they will choose the painting to match the wall colours. A painting costs $10,000 and paint costs $100.

Similarly with lamps, there needs to be parity with features and room design. I certainly would not start a CBUS design without a furniture plan. All those designs where the lamps seem to shine in places, only to hit the floor, is a prime example.

I have just put a Crompton XL Panel into each of my bathrooms. (product is listed here )

It's a fairly big hole to chop in a ceiling, but over a vanity it makes a LOT of light (far better than a ****ty CFL), does not fade with time (like a CFL). Power consumption is a lot less than an incendescent for about 6 x the light, and similar to a CFL for a lot more light as well.

I have one of these running off a C-Bus Wireless trailing edge dimmer, with no problems at all. The other has a trailing edge rotary mech dimmer.

(Warning: they don't work properly off a wireless leading edge dimmer.)

I'm very pleased with the result: a repaint, a clean up, and my old bathroom feels like new. Amazing what a difference decent lighting makes.
