Hi guys, I am new to C-Bus and was wondering if someone could outline the minimum equipment HW/SW to get started on C-Bus.
I want to get familiar with the concepts by setting up a small lab type environment to experiment with.

    Hi allanf,

The recommended method is to do the C-Bus Basics Training Course.

    http://events.clipsal.com/CIS/Default.aspx

AFAIK it's about $1300 plus a special course-only price of $800 for a Training Pack (USB PCI, 4 channel dimmer, 1 DLT and 1 Switch). Since the RRP on the pack is about $2100 anyway you can think of it as getting the Training Course for free.

You will also get to play with several other units during the course (sensors etc).

You can then take the pack, stick it in your lab or house and build from there with the knowledge you've gained.

Minimum would be input unit (single key input unit) and an output unit coupled with a PCI/CNI for programming the units.

You could then configure the output unit to "turn on" from you input unit, play with logic a little using tool kit to set group values.

This would be limiting in what you could do, but it would be a start that you could expand on. Add a PIR or more key input units as your skills develop.

And just make sure the output unit has an inbuilt power supply :)
