    I have a cabling fault on my MRA Digital Input. The cable has never been used and it's the last MRA unit in the house (Typical). Pin 2 is dead. I'd repatched both ends and I am convinced it must be a fault across the cable run. It's an absoute pig of a run under tiled floors and behind false walls.

    Some questions;

    1. Can I use local source without MRA Digital Input?
    2. Are all pairs needed? repatch?
    3. What are the pin outs on the Digital Audio feed?
    4. Could I loose remote power and use a local power source thus freeing up two pair?

    I can't quite face the tought of a fresh cable run.

    1) Yes. I think you may just need to manually assign the zone number in the amplifier.
    2) All of them are used. Pin 5 is the reticulated IR.. if you're not using this, you could move the core from pin 5 to pin 2. This the only one I would suggest could be moved.
    3) No comment.
    4) Yes, but if I understand what you're saying, and you have an open circuit on pin 2 of your cable run (which is the power), then all you need to do is apply the local power and it should work.

    Thanks, Nick. I thought I had tried that but I will give it a go. I have an option on a fresh cable run too but it's outside and not pretty. Thanks again.

    OMG! I don't believe it! Today was the day I planned to do the new cable run. I have a 3ft masonry drill ready, ladder up and render mixed to patch the mess I was about to make.

    Purely by coincidence I had to patch a new cable to link two data switches. Made the cable and put it on the tester. Would you believe it; pin 2 fail!! FAR too march of a coincidence so I got a known good patch cable and tested it… same result.:confused:

    After all this the damn tester has failed. I wouldn’t mind, but as I managed to damage a MRA Amp due to a cabling fault I don’t let anything touch the system until tested. I plugged the cable in and the damn thing worked first time. Can you imagine if I’d run the cable only to find the same fault?
    Sorry to waste your time! B**dy cabling…
