    Hi,

I?m having a problem with a 3rd party device integrating to my C Bus project.
I have a large project with 3 networks. I?m using 3 network bridges and the typology of the bridges are set up as ring type, so the networks all act as one.
I have a PC interface on the local network which a 3rd party device is connected to. The problem is that the 3rd party device can only read group addresses from the local network and not the other 2. Is there any way that the 3rd party device can read group values on all networks from the local network? Or must I install a PC interface on each network?

If the software in the third party device is written correctly, it should work with messages coming across C-Bus bridges. It is very common for software developers to assume they can ignore the C-Bus message routing (or to ignore messages containing routing), but this limits the use of their device to working with a single network.

I would suggest that the device needs an update to the software. All information is supplied in the C-Bus protocol documentation which the developers should have. If they require assistance, help is available via the C-Bus Enabled program.

    No.

    Hi Darren,

Thanks for the quick reply. We did some testing last night and we noticed that if we view the applications via toolkit. We can only read the groups that are changing on that network that we are connected to.
This seems quite strange to me, as this is the same issue we are having with the 3rd party device?

I had assumed that other devices were able to see these groups and that it was only the third party device not behaving correctly.

It may be that the bridges are not set up to send messages across the bridge.

If you have not already done so, read the C-Bus Networks document as it contains everything you need to know about how messages get around C-Bus and will probably explain why you can't see some messages.

Hi Darren, Thanks for the quick response.

I have read through the document and saw that they mentioned "application connect mode". I'm almost sure this is where the problem is but according to the document you set this in your network bridges.

Now i have had a thorough look at the network bridges and i can see no such setting. The only settings i can see is whether to send to adjacent or remote network, wich i have already set up.

Do you have any idea what they mean with "Application connect mode" Or where i can set it up?

    Thanks in advance.

We've recently installed and commissioned a multi-network site where a third-party A/V contractor was having problems receiving C-Bus messages across the bridges (although they could send ok).

The problem ended up being a setting in the PCI...maybe Local SAL or something?

Application Connect mode is the same as the send to adjacent network setting when you are configuring a bridge.

I would suggest using the Diagnostic Utility to see if you can see the messages. If it doesn't show the messages, then nothing will see them.

You haven't said what is generating the messages and on which network.

This is a common cause of not being able to send messages across bridges, but is unrelated to not receiving messages.
