I attended C-Bus training earlier in the year and we were told that Clipsal were working on a new design for their dimmers. Basically supporting leading and trailing edge dimming.

Anyone at CIS care to give us an up date on product development progress availabilty etc.

    Thanks

The latest TPG has them listed as POA

There is a '+' prefix next to them that indicates they are available.

    maybe TBC??:D

If they told us the release date, then they'd have to kill us :)

Wasn't the 8 channel dimmer due for the same treatment? I was at a C-Bus training course a while back and I was sure that the L5508D1A was due for a birthday upgrade.

Is this still on the drawing board CIS? IF so what is the progress?

    Thanks,

    Fleetz

    8 Ch universal...

sorry - you must have the wrong end of the stick there. Not in development, and no plans.

How suitable is this dimmer for ceiling fan control - would we still expect to get noise issues with it?

    Hi Mick,

The universal dimmer is still a phase control dimmer, and any phase control dimmer is going to have the same problems when it comes to noise generated with fan motor loads.

The dimmer itself will control fan motor loads quite happily, but depending on the particular fan the noise level will vary. I think I've said it before here... we have had these running ceiling fans in the lab and with two identical fans.. one is noisy and the other is silent :| The hit and miss nature of the fans themselves is why we don't promote the use of these dimmers for fan control, as we can't guarantee silent operation.

Not that I like the product all that much, but IControl promotes their dimmer as fan-friendly. I wonder what they do differently?

I'd suggest that the difference is not technical.

Perhaps they promote it differently :D
