Im starting a very small but new cbus installation. going through all the info again. it been some years since i did my cbus coarse. around 2003

I like to know how many sparkys actually use circuit breakers on the output side of the relays as recommended by cbus. Given that the line side is allready protected by rcd. CBUS say if you want certification on the job then you should be using this method, I was just wondering because of all the extra room required by extra breakers how many people actually do that method?

Also, I will be using only 2 x 12 relay output modules and 1 x 4 channel dim module.

Was planning on using a 45 or 60 way PDL super board. see www.pdl.com.au Was wondering if anyone else had something else that is better for the job.

    cheers

As far as I know Clipsal don't specifically recommend this, other than to say it may be a requirement of you local wiring regulations, depending of course on where you live.

Are you sure? This is news to me.

This looks very similar to the Clipsal 4FCC45/4FCC60. Chances are they are actually the same thing with different doors.

John, when choosing a DB for C-Bus output/support devices keep in mind the configuration and length of the rails. The PDL/Clipsal boards as mentioned are 3 x 15 Poles and 4 x 15 Poles, not bad if you want to fit 1 x 12 module device plus associated circuit breaker(s) alongside it.

The trouble starts if down the track you need to add a 4 module device (e.g. standalone P/Supply, PC Interface etc.), 16 modules on a 15 module rail becomes a bit awkward
With your 2 relays and 1 dimmer setup perhaps go for the 60 pole board as insurance or have a look around for a board that has 18 or 24 pole rails :)

The installation handbook does saw SHOULD for dimmers, which I agree is a recommendation.

    http://www2.clipsal.com/cis/__data/page/4722/Handbook_-_C-Bus_Hardware_Installation2.pdf

The installation instructions doesn't even mention the word MCB.

    http://updates.clipsal.com/ClipsalOnline/Files/Brochures/W0000353.pdf

Still not sure about them saying you have to do this for certification, in fact I didn't know they even had certification, just certified (pointone) installers.
