    Hey Guys<

I have just purchased a new laptop to do my programming on.

I have to admit, i did'nt do my home work.

The laptop is running windows 8 and will not run toolkit.

    An error message comes up

"a required component of toolkit c-gate, failed to start"

I have adjusted firewalls and searched the internet for fixes.

Is there a fix for this or am I stuck with my old laptop until this is sorted?

You should be able to run in a virtual window. Window XP had an option to do this.

I had the same problem, in the end I ended up partitioning the hard drive and setting up windows 7 on a dual boot option.

    I tried Toolkit on Windows 8 64bit.
Actually it was Windows 8.1 preview but I doubt that is an issue.

Installed the latest Toolkit 1.12.5 which set CGate as a service.
Initially Toolkit would come up with errors.

Right clicked program and set compatibility to XP SP3 saved settings and it started up, connected to network and seemed to work fine.

I was using TCP connection on RS232 interface via a serial device server.
Did not test USB drivers but if there is issues with them on 64 bit I would check out this thread regarding unsigned drivers.

Thanks guys, found windows 8 has an option to run programs on older software.
I can open up toolkit with the wiser, no luck using a PCI.

Is there a work around for this?
