Group Addresses can't be edited. There's a lot of history behind this..

Yes, that's nice Duncan - but the answer is...

Collapse the Groups Listing in the Left-side pane. (This stops it taking forever to add a new group, and delete the old one). Click on the Groups tree node heading, to make the Groups appear in the Right Pane. Sort the list by clicking "Address" (Decimal). Find your old group.

Now in the Toolbar, create a NEW Group - selecting the Group Number that you want to use (eg: Group 110) from the drop box thingy, and make a new description the same as the old one + 1 extra character (eg: Downlights B)

Then expand the Groups in the Left Pane by clicking on the title (Groups). Scroll down and find the Group Name of your ORIGINAL group, then click it once (in left pane) to select it. In the right pane will appear a Listing of what devices use that Group.

On each of devices, click it and choose "Edit Unit" on the toolbar. Then, find which channels use your OLD Group Name, and change them to your NEW Group Name.

When all done and working OK, go back to the Groups list and delete the Original Group. Collapsing the Left Pane will make this faster. Then re-name the NEW Group to the original name.

The whole process takes longer to type than to do it !

However, there is normally NO NEED to ever change the Group Number... the only reason I can think of would be to resolve a conflist / duplication that the inbuilt "UnRavel" command couldn't repair automatically

    Cheers, John

    qool thanks for the workaround...
ill give it a go :)

cuz the project manager group tree is alphaebticaly listed im labeling appropriately to make them list in the order i want...
and the main window also can be listed by tag name so everything is cool.

i noticed that NETWORK and UNIT addresses can be re-addressed which is cool becasue i like to also veiw/sort by UNIT ADDRESS

i just hate seeing numbers out of aligmnat...
might b some mental disorder :D

when i made one group before another i noticed the group addresses were all out of whack i wanted to tidy that up but it should never be nessesary im hoping :)

    peace

Don't worry too much about the Group Numbers themselves... I used to spend hours making them all neat and orderly then realised it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. There is only one place that you can easily "see them" anyway... in that Groups Listing.

Everywhere else, and in the other software, you are only really working with Group Names (not numbers) anyway.

And keep in mind that you can sort each column by double-clicking (or is that single-clicking?) it's column title bar. So, just Sort by Group Name and it's easier to make it nice

OH - and by the way... C-bus actually doesn't use either of those "easily readable" Group definitions - it actually uses and stores only the HEX Group Numbers (1A, 2F etc) that you see in the next column along from the Group Number (Decimal). :)
