From what I can determine and see from reading these forums the PAC has several 'operating modes':
    • Connected to CGATE via a PC
    • Connected to PICED via a PC
    • Not connected to a PC

Now I have read somewhere that the 'run time' mode is the Not connected one.

I have also observed on my PAC that, if I leave it in the 'connected to CGATE' mode, after a while it stops responding to scene requests and needs a reset which suggests a memory leak somewhere (although my very slow PC may contribute to this).

I can understand that leaving it in PICED mode is a debugging one.

Now it seems to me that leaving it connected to CGATE should be perfectly acceptable as it is then running as a PC interface. (It is an issue for me since my PAC is in the back of my server cupboard and hard to reach!)

Has anyone any views or experiences?
    Thanks
    Mark

    Hi Mark
I think your getting a little mixed up.
The PAC is a bit of hardware which is programmed with PICED.
It doesn't have any different operating modes, only what you program into it. Once you have programmed your code with PICED you just have to connect and download, then away the PAC unit goes (at least that is the idea if it :D )

The modes i think you are refering to are used in PICED to test etc your code before installing it to the PAC. Which is why as you said after a while it stops working (done by CIS to stop people using PICED as free end user software).

    Hope this helps
    Cheers

If the PAC is operating as a PCI then it will not perform it's duties as a PAC so things like scenes will not operate. If you want it to act like a PAC then you need to unplug the USB cable.
